So i read the lore snip for the 4th faction... it mentions nulcear mines, is that something that devs have talked about in the past and im behind.. or is it just a part of the story and should i shut up? http://www.uberent.com/pa/2014/03/07/lore-update-faction-4-reveal/
Oh god, as someone who frequents the planetside 2 forums a lot I saw 4th faction and immediately thought WHIIIINE thread. I think they should make normal mines have some kind of purpose first.
I like the idea of nuclear mines.. but i dont wont to assume that its pressence in lore is confirmation of a feature... id rather uber write lore and not have to worry about me saying "if it exists there will it exist here?" But nuclear mines would add an actual reason to be warry of mines.
Would anyone actually use nuke-mines? You'd have to space them very carefully so one scout doesn't eliminate your entire minefield and there's too much chance of it being wasted by some lone unit. If I suspected nuke-mines ahead I'd just spam land scouts or something as cannon fodder first to check.
Activateable and undetectable would be a lot of fun for messing around. And make them buildable by orbital fabbers...
If undetectable nuke mines could not be countered with scouts then they would be too powerful. Activatable mines would be too powerful without a new unit that could detect and neutralize them.
nuke mines? Like real full blown nukes? ... hm... 1. place nuke mine at empty expansion spot. 2. Let opponent build a forward base there... 3. *trollface* I don't know, sounds like a very niche weapon that would hardly ever be used anyway and might potentially be hard to balance?
Just think about how long it would take to build... Would you really want to have to throw 100 combat fabs out there just to build a nuke mine once a minute?
I think this could be interesting if you built one in your own base that you were about to lose, and then waited your enemy to take it while you escaped to another planet. once he has put a sufficient amount of work into fortifying that spot..........booooooom!!!
They were fun to play around with in TA but there were much more efficient means of defense. I would build them in a no-mans land between point defense and my base. Stealth (concealment) of units drew power, so if you power stalled your mines would be seen on radar and swiftly destroyed by gunships.
I think it would be a good idea it they were remotely detonated rather than proximity detonated. Good one use area denial weapon, or a cool way to ragequit once the enemy rushes into your base.
Better than having them set off by accident by your own units or enemy scouts. With remote detonation you can time it so it goes off in the center of the enemy tankblob.
Nuclear mines wouldn't be like actual strategic nukes but rather more like smaller tactical nukes that would kill a large blob of units, not an entire base... Source of info: based on what TA nuclear mines were...
