    Hello everyone,
I made this thread to discuss the pelican. Its aerial transport that will one ground unit to another position on the planet quite fast. The only problem I find is that at the moment they seem to be quite underpower IMO. I mean I dont see any use for them besides emergency commander evac or com rushing ( a strategy that is often not executed properly and puts the player behind instead of ahead). I mean it not too practical to transport a land army with them as you have to build one for each unit, and with PA's clunky unload/load system it would really give you a hard time. As for the commander evac, when it comes the point that you have an emergency state for your com, you air is almost always dead meaning it probably wont be there for the few times you need it. Agree? Disagree? Lets discuss :)

I'm still of the opinion that it should be a T1 unit, and just shouldn't be able to pick up the commander. It should be used as a cheap and weak combat transport for armies.

ye I'm all for this actually. It does make sense, the commander's big and heavy.

Err have you tried using vangaurd with pelican.
Drop vanguard with pelican in enemybase next to their power if they dont have aa (earlier is better) then just watch lol.

    Vanguard drop.

Have you seen how fast those things kill a com? If one gets to the com, that's a very dead com.

XD but its more a late game T2 aircraft and by that time if you dont have insta death flak and aa covering your resources than lol you deserve to die to a vanguard. :p
The only problem is with it being a T1 unit is that than it would most likely be carying T1 dox and ants. You would have to spam so much of them and even if you did make a successful landing they would just get shot to **** by laser cannons and commanders as they usually take around 1 shot to down. Also if it was T1 it might be made weaker and it would often get shot down before it could even drop.

Infernos. They are pretty much the best T1 unit to drop. Booms will be pretty good once they fix them.

Something to consider. Right now the planets we're playing on are pretty small, so the need for transports is lessened.

Also, if transports become basic again, the pace of the game will increase astronomically due to the ability to put units anywhere on the map with ease. So raiding and flaking on all sides will become incredibly fast and furious.

Which is a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on your viewpoint.

I've suggested that a bunch of times but people whined about how it didn't make sense.

    But it makes perfect sense.

    I like the idea.

Sure, but by the time you can do that, they should have scouted you and built anti-air.

    That's another thing to consider.

Inferno hot drops at 5ish minutes in are a b****. Difficult to counter unless you're expecting them.

Honestly, I don't see why they didn't just do this instead of moving the pelican to T2...

If the planets do get bigger I hope they add a multi-unit transport. Transporting units one by one would be a huge pain especially with PA's loading/unloading system.

As for the inferno drops, I don't think many people use them. I mean a T2 factory pumping pelicans and another factory pumping inferno's is not really the first thing people think of as a game winning strategy. Building a strong anti air around your base could solve the problem along with some turrets.

    Dont worry they will....

On a more serious note, I think t2 pelicans are fine, they should just make them a bit more expensive with the ability to hold say 2-3 units instead of one.

You obviously weren't playing when the transports first came out.

Inferno drops during the opening minutes were common. The main reason why they were so deadly is because it was so early in the game that not much could be done to counter them.

Multi-unit transports are gonna be added eventually, after launch.

And actually, PA's load/unload system is pretty darn easy. The area load command is amazing. Pair it with keyboard shortcuts and you're made in the shade.

Yes i was not here in the very early stages in the game, so do not know much about them. I mostly concentrate on what's happening now and how it could change in the future. And I cant wait for multi-unit transports, that sound like good news :), now I know they will be added "soon":p. And i dont know why but I often have much trouble queuing load and unload commands, maybe its different for you :). Regardless one by one unit transport is really painfully slow, but the multi-units should take care of that I hope. Although i hope they don't regard the pelican useless and move it to t1 while multi-units is t2.

Actually, multi unit transports aren't soon. They're after game launch.

Maybe this'll help you be better with transports
