I know this has been posted a lot but I cannot for the life of me get this game to work! I was an early backer in May/June and have never gotten the game to start up. I've literally tried everything, downloaded the redistributes , Graphics card is updated, etc. and I just assumed since it was early in development there was probably bugs that needed to be worked out. But nearly a year later I STILL get the black screen and Pa.exe has stopped working error.

I've attached my DxDiag to this post and will list my specs below:

    -Windows 7 64 bit
-Nvidia GTX 260 Graphics card (Should be good enough?)
    -Intel i7 CPU 930 (Bloomfield)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you please create and upload new DxDiag.txt?

Also if you run game though Steam please try two workarounds. First try to run game without Steam overlay:
Right click the game in your Library -> Select Properties -> On the General tab, uncheck the box next to Enable Steam Community In-Game

Then try to run non-Steam version:

Here is the updated dxdiag, also I cannot try the non-steam version because my key was converted to a steam key and the workaround for Steam did not work either.

It's not true. You need to make sure that your UberNet and Steam accounts linked:
    https://uberent.com/user/linksteam
Then you should be able to use non-Steam version.

Yes you can by signing in with your UberNet credentials. It's the same as your steam account.

Can you please open directory where non-Steam version installed, then open "PA" directory, then "bin_x86" and run PA.exe from here?

By default it's will be located here:
    C:\Program Files(x86)\Planetary Annihilation\PA\bin_x86\PA.exe

Then you most likely affected by one very weird startup crash inside Coherent.
Also if you'll use 32-bit version (bin_x86) from directory then you need patch this executable with 4GB patch:

Alright so as long as I run it from there I should be ok? I'm guessing this will be fixed by the time the game is finished since it's the only game I've ever encountered to do this.

Not actually. 32-bit version limited to use 4GB RAM and will crash if game need more memory.
Also you need to apply 4GB patch after each update.

There is multiple players with this crash. I'll create task for tracking it and then post link in this topic.

Can you upload a log file from a failed run? The log files are written out to:

    c:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log

or something like that. The log file should include a some info about how things are going during initialization and where it cuts off could reveal something interesting.

I can give you tons of such logs if you want, every of them is crash inside Coherent on init.
There about ~30 (or might be more) players affected with same problem:
    1. All players have Windows 64-bit, most of them have Nvidia GPUs.
    2. Both 32-bit and 64-bit crash though Steam.
    3. 32-bit non-Steam version work fine.
    4. Crash occur exactly after:
      Code:
      [13:22:14.791] INFO Coherent local store: "C:\\Users\\USER\\AppData\\Local\\Uber Entertainment\\Planetary Annihilation\\localstore"
    5. According to crash dump it's crash within Coherent. Thanks @UberGaf who checked dumps. ;)
I'm 99% sure that OP have exactly same issue.
Problem itself is extremely old and it's here since at least October.
