Ok here are just a couple screenshots I took because of the new patch has finally improved the biomes giving the terrain a MUCH needed boost in fidelity and it looks fantastic when you start building your base around it..... LOVE TO UBER!! thank you for adding the details in the planets just look so much better! as well do the lights on power gens.
That first image reminds me; shadows seem to bug out like that fairly often for me, especially in the system editor. It looks very similar to a shadow bug I noticed in Skyrim as well. Anyone know what causes that, if it's a bug in PA or a hardware / driver issue?
That I'm not sure, I've always had that with this game though, its normally down to a driver issue, but it doesn't matter which driver I use it seems always a little bit of a bug, but nothing game breaking or anything.
It's bug in shadowing system: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/strange-graphic-bug.52976/ Here is developers answers about that.
It's essentially an unsolvable problem with shadow maps, the "fixes" are various methods of hiding it (usually by blurring the f@#! out of it) or trying to avoiding it all together.
How the hell did you built those defense tower on those plateaus ? ! ! ? Here is my best try with a radar : And impossible with any other structure ! Even with an aircraft fabber ! !
Placing structures on plateaus was working long ago. There has been no word from uber on this topic ever since it stopped working.
Comparing the 2 screenshots, the first thing I'd notice is that in your shot its a MUCH smaller object and that the radar isn't actually on top of it, its sitting inside it. Other structures are probably intersecting the edges which is why they wont build. The other thing to note is that in the first image that shot is on the desert biome. I would therefore suggest you try playing around with different map types and the biome scale in the system editor so we can work out what does and doesn't work as evidently it isn't *always* broken...
Ok, i made some tries : it seems to be very dependant on the plateau's size and type. The plateau have to be much larger than the structure. So it's possible but very difficult because only a few of them can be used (since the majority of the large ones aren't very high, so not interesting). Hope this will be ameliorated in the future...
I wonder if its how the 'plateau' is created... I think the larger ones are produced using the additive and subtractive brushes they detailed in a live stream some time ago and are therefore part of the terrain. I guess the smaller ones are objects (like trees) that are scattered around for effect after the terrain is done. As it currently stands trees don't interact with units so I guess any rocks and things added this way will have the same issue (which would explain why your radar was sitting inside the rock)...
I think csg plateaus are fine to build on, but rocks that are just in the game as features are not. So far, features are just graphical and don't alter the gameplay at all. Later on we will have more interaction with them.
My first game console : a Sportmaster SD-050F with AWESOME pong games ! I'm still the proud owner of it.
Nice... I've got an old Pong machine knocking around, a hand-me-down from my Cousin, although its not as impressive as yours! I've also got my first games machine, a Spectrum 128K +2 (that's the fancy model with a *built in* cassette drive) Ghost busters on that baby, in colour and everything!
Hell yeah ! ! Spectrum +2 : great machine with huge memory ! I made my first attempt of programming a video game on his old brother, the first ZX Spectrum which belonged to a friend of mine !
Interesting convo I wasn't expecting this when I originally posted the screenshots! Yeah I basically used an Air Fabber because it seemed they was able to build the turrets faster as i was expanding the base all over the place, it was just probably more luck than anything. On the biome I made, hence the reason I posted the screenshots in the first place was there is so much more terrain objects now and I just wanted to see if i could build a turret on a few that spanded in-between my walls and that one was placeable. Yes I was using the desert template also.
New terrain looks great actually, really adds to the look of the game, and makes it much easier to read height differences (today, I was actively using plateaus as cover!) Nice screenshots!
Thanks! i'll post some more later as someone in a different thread wanted screenshots as he cant find any online or something
