Me and my friend play against each other a lot, and we tend to get around 1000 tanks each most of the time we play against each other. Before this patch it was completely fine and playable, but since then my game constantly freezes later on when we get to about 50 factories each and around 800 tanks each. My internet is pretty poor and my friend doesn't have this issue at all. Is there any makeshift fix until Uber sort this out? Thanks in advance.
Are you and your friend both playing from same location or not? When it's freezes next time press Ctrl+P four times and check simulation performance just to be sure it's not simulation stopped.
No we're located at different places. I'll check if simulation has stopped next time we play. I'll explain the issue more to see if it helps. When I say freeze I mean; I can still move the camera around and I have a playable framerate. But everything is non-moving for a good while, sometimes I can see his units if which are in fog of war on my screen. Which I assume is our units colliding and it's trying to send me the data but it can't. Then suddenly the game catches up and all units move at once and it's playable for about 3 seconds then back to frozen.
No he doesn't have it. EU Servers. I wish to emphasise that my internet is very very bad. His is about 10mbps to my 1.77mbps
Then it's obviously internet connection issue. PA need stable 2mbps connection to work well in mid/late game when there is lot of units.
You're missing the part where it worked completely fine and dandy before the patch. EDIT: To add to that, I've played a game where I've had ~2000 tanks under my control with few issues, god knows how many the other team had and it ran fine. Since the patch it's COMPLETELY freezing for periods of up to 1 minute with around 800 tanks under my control.
There was other reports like your about such freezes in 58772 so I don't think it's related to latest patch, e.g @stormingkiwi had exactly same behavior. Let's see if somebody else have same issue because if it's related to patch it's also affect other players.
I was playing last night with my friend, we tend to play quite frequently vs each other. We played about three games consisting of LOTS of tanks and it was completely fine. His internet then disconnected and when he loaded up the launcher he noticed there was a new patch. So we both downloaded it and played against each other and about half way through I'm getting some freezing but I assume it's due to me teleporting a high number of dox's through the portal. This continues into the next two games we play before we head off to bed. The next day we play against each other and this time we decide no teleporters to see if that's what is causing the issue. Even without them I was still freezing up and it became unplayable. I refuse to accept that it isn't this patches fault if I literally played games before the patch which I can no longer play after.
Was there AI in your game? Also, How are you connecting to you modem? Wifi or Ethernet Cable.. I have this exact same issue when i play on my tablets Wifi connection, game runs fine when i use ethernet/usb. Easiest check to see if it's the internet or the patch freezing up your game is press Ctrl-p and watch your in game FPS counter, if it's stable and not single digits and game animation is fine but your units are jumping about and game is unresponsive to clicks/orders sometimes then it's your internet. Sometimes when lots of data is dropped it get's very laggy.
Also the adding of new features and the extra speed at which area commands allows us to amass armies, the game puts a lot more strain on the network connection than what it did in the last build.. I noticed my game using about 400kb/s bandwidth mid game, it was occasionally maxing out my connection at 768kb/s
Also one last request,, can you attach your DxDiag.txt to a post here.. It will help me and SXX so we can find a way to improve the situation.
My framerate during this issue stands at around 15fps. I know it isn't a frame rate issue due to the fact I can still move the camera around and queue up actions prepared for when it suddenly decides to start playing again. My download speed generally doesn't go above 300kb/s so if what you're saying is accurate then that's probably why I'm having an issue. I'm using a wired connection and it's physically impossible for me to get better internet at this moment without moving from where I live. Although I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this game to not require a download speed of above 300kb/s.
Install the ATI 13.12 catalyst drivers.. Your current drivers are from july last year and need to be updated! i'll grab the link for you
Thanks for that, I didn't realise they were so out dated. But I doubt this will be fixing the connection issue. I'm going to test if it happens if my friend and I don't use the area commands and I'll post the results.
I don't think stopping using area commands will do that much, once the command is sent the server handles it. It maybe that just having those features like area commands and teleporters requires a bit more bandwidth in general.
Yeah it is, it a fair miracle it runs on as low a connection speed as it does now, it uses less bandwidth than supcom(supreme commander) from what i've seen in discussions on the forums, and this game has you using and moving more units than in supcom on and usually on more than 1 battle field
On a good side note, when the game is released it will run on your pc no internet needed, it will have lan capabilities, so internet speed wont be a limiting factor unless you want to play against other people across the world.
But I used to be able to play fine, and I can play SupCom: FA fine. This issue has recently popped up and I see no reason for it to go from perfectly okay in a multi planet environment to completely unplayable on one planet the next day.
