Occasionally when I play vs. the AI, it will walk its commander into my base and explode even though it has a significant amount (sometimes full) of its health left. Is this intentional? Is it something players could do as well?
yes it's called Com Bombing.. Or commander bombing.. It's a kamikaze move, suicide to kill your enemy.
But in a 1v1 scenario, why would a commander intentionally suicide? Or is it a sort of "surrender" for them? Edit: Ah, it looks like it is a "bug" so far as to be posted in the section for them. Still seems a little bit odd considering the AI can't win once it detonates.
In a 1v1 commander rushings can be an early win if done right.. One usually takes a few backup fabbers and trails them behind the commander, the fabbers are set to heal/assist the commander.. This kind of tactic gives you an almost invincible commander early game, the commander just walks into a partially built base destroying everything while being healed by its assisting fabbers. To stop this kind of commander rush you need to pick off his backup before taking on the commander or it heals faster than you can kill it, or use the same tactic and build assisting fabbers and have a commander duel. Why the AI is com bombing or com rushing baffles me, but the AI developer "Sorian" is good at making cunning AI's so im sure that maybe it's something intentional that happened at the wrong time.. Example, in a 2v2 against AI sorian may have programmed in a com bombing routine, maybe for some reason it happens by accident/glitch in 1v1 matches too.
This would make sense, considering that he tries to position himself near the most valuable assets inside the base. Just a really odd scenario that's happened a few times, but judging by Sorian's credentials I'm sure it'll be fixed or justified soon.
https://forums.uberent.com/threads/just-got-com-bombed-by-ai.54957/ Sorian states in this thread it's intentional but it still needs some fixing/fine-tuning
