I noticed that before the recent patch, I would spend a lot of my time building my base and giving orders to expansion engineers. With the introduction of area commands I waste less time, and the game feels more playable. So I started the cycle over and found that now I spend a lot of time issuing orders to newly constructed factories, and scrolling around the map to find a location or to give scouting orders.
I think to solve this, we just have to let factories assist other factories and build from their queue, like in FA; and implement some sort of minimap.
Is there something along the lines of a feature-tracker, like bug-tracker, where I can vote on features that I want implemented sooner?

edit: with some further thought, I don't think a minimap is necessary or the only solution to this. I guess I could save locations by using markers and jump back to them, that would probably be the most efficient use of my time. Except that doesn't solve the problem of issuing scouting orders. Right now, if I have a scout plane and I want to find my opponent I will order him to circle the planet, then, when it reaches its starting point I make it turn 90 degrees and go around again. I hope you see where I'm going with this.

    the forum.

If it isn't here then I don't know what we've been doing all this time but it sure was a waste of time.

    CUTESY BUMP IS STILL BUMP!

That said, this is a pretty good approach to determining what most needs improvement in the UI.

I do too spend too much time individually selecting factories and managing factory queues. We need factory grouping and/or factory assisting.

I would love an auto-scout button

I waste the most time managing my queue. A loop button like in SupCom would be cool

I usually spend most of my time scouting and branching out with engineers.

Planning my positioning based on what enemy forces I see so I can begin my initial raiding with bots and where I need to be setting up radar and defensive nets based on the terrain.

Off the top of my head I would guess it is

    1. expanding and building my base
    2. scouting
    3. microing combat units

Seems there is pretty much always some structure that I need to be building.

The most frustrating place where I waste time is trying to split fabricators. Try grabbing a precise (or even approximate) number of fabs from a cluster of them--not easy, especially late game. This is due to some kind of lag.

Maybe there could be a smart functionality to the Idle Fabricator button where multiple presses selects that number of idle fabs, selecting from proximity to the camera.

    one press - one fab
two presses in quick succession - two fabs

    etc.

The problem with saving locations is that it saves the camera angle as well. I find it a really disjointed way of moving the camera around.

I think that could be a good feature. If you do the majority of your moving with anchors, then wouldn't it actually help with orientation? So the only motions you make with your mouse would be small adjustments.

The zoom is never quite the same zoom I was just using. It's either too close for what I want to do, or further away than I was just using
