Probably a crazy thought , but is there any intention to allow for AI player in team armies mode?

It Could be fun for large multi planet games, allowing the AI to look after one planet while you are elsewhere. You would probably want to set some limitations such as only letting them control units on the same planet as their commander.

This will probably be a thing that happens, But i cant ever see the AI playing 'smart' but instead simply playing to win the game like the other AIs

What I mean by this is that I very much doubt the AI will take actions to defend your bases or play in a cooperative method.

I could be wrong about this, but I'm just basing this on how the AI in previous games like supcom and TA were... You could ally with them, but they'd never come to your rescue except where it was an obvious choice that helped it somehow win the game.

I'd personally like to assign a planet I control to an AI, but a feature like this might just reduce player involement to the point where players control AIs who make all the real choices.

You gotta be careful the game doesn't play itself ;)

Oh agreed, you don't want the game to play itself. That is something you'd have to be quite careful about.

I think the issue will be where the skill level of the player is less than the AI, then you're better off letting the AI play the game.

If the AI is still a bit stupid, I think that's better. Player agency should be required for any strategic moves, you move the AI commander onto a moon, then it will build up a base there while you do something else. it will build up eco and defend itself, and if enemy units turn it will will try to defeat them. but its not going to expand off world or build halleys.

Its also different in Team armies because units are shared. Would the AI respond to a threat to the player's commander like it's own?

I think only letting the AI act on the planet its commander is on, plus not letting it take units the player has issued commands to would be the 1st steps.
