If you want a relaxed start why not just wait a bit and relax before clicking ready?

So let's start with enough resources to make an initial factory? The whole point of that is to prevent pointless waiting.

It's not that simple. You need enough resources to build the factory, get extractors and generators without stalling, and keep the factory going at the same time.

It's actually quite a lot of resources, because mexes are expensive and construction draws huge amounts of energy.

You could merely allow an option at game set-up to change commander storage values. Those who want slow game can reduce it, those who want to have a factory first build can increase it.

Reduce the commander's energy consumption further.

Boost Comm's lathe speed, have a game option to set starting wreckage from the first lander.

    Easy game start options.

I really hope we can get this problem solved without introducing mandatory starting reclaimables. It always felt like a hack to avoid fixing the real problem, and just introduced more tedious micro. For new players it isn't really clear that you will lose every time if you don't reclaim.

That's what I meant. We can already build an initial factory with what we have. We just cannot use it afterwards.

Rushing is not a bad concept. I think there is an unfair stigma that comes with rushing people.
Rushing is not just mindlessly spamming. It's a byproduct of someone's desire to win.
It's the quickest way to win a game vs a bad opponent.
Rushes are fine if they are balanced and not the dominant play style.
That being said, there will always exist an aggressive tactic that you will have to put up with.

Which is where additional storage comes in, it gives you the resources necessary to build the factory and run it while the commander builds up the resource base necessary to stop you going negative.

No, it doesn't. If every opening is MEX, energy, MEX, MEX, factory, how is that different? My factory and your factory go up at the same time. The purpose of early factory is to encourage a diversity of play in the opening which is lacking right now, because play doesn't change until contact is made, which also results in pre-factory play being identical for every game.

You might want to cut back on the laughable hyperbole too.
