I know the thread title sounds weird, but you'll know what i mean. So far, in PA, solar systems seem to have 2 dimensional orbits, for better clarity, look at this image: https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=solar system&source=images&cd=&docid=S4gIz-U9LvWJjM&tbnid=l9lvi5fnJnFIxM:&ved=&url=http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/&ei=IIu3UvzHE8eBhAetiYCIBw&psig=AFQjCNGVw0irYTYPrU-R_HifnXzCvIRbjA&ust=1387846816538800 See how all the planets are on the same axis? Unlike how the solar system's planets actually orbit: http://lunaf.com/english/live-data/solar-system-planets-orbits/ Personally I see much more interesting gameplay if planets have different axis's (not the plural i know), for example, certain planets would be easier to travel to/nuke at certain times etc. Also the new orbital camera would make this much easier to navigate so yeah: Dicuss if this should be added.
This has been mentioned before. I'm not aware of any word from Uber whether they'd add this. Not really sure how it'd alter gameplay though.
The engine is capable of non-planar orbits. Uber has decided that to stop everyone getting completely mindfucked, orbits will be by default all planar.
I could understand with the old camera, but with this new orbital camera it would be much easier to navigate the solar system, it would be much harder to be "Mindfucked". Also thinking about it, non- planar orbits would make it easier for Uber to position the orbits of asteroids that had been set to collide with planets (due to their being more points from where the asteroid can come from)
Ehh, I'm not fussed either way. You'll be happy to know that one of the modders will implement this. If not, you're more than welcome to try it.
The concern I remember being listed is more of a UI issue type concerns, i.e. getting the arbitrary 3D orbit you want from 2D mouse input is not trivial. (Yes, KSP, but you're not making arbitrary orbits from scratch) Not saying it can't,wont or shouldn't happen(or any of the inverses) long term, but it will take a certain amount of work and trial and error to make it work nicely, for an item that is not required for the game to be playable, putting it lower on the list of things to get done.
