What if we were able to fly a nuke through a teleporter, at a large energy cost (cause of the uranium).

First, we need to know how the teleporter works.

Do things that go in magically appear at the desired location, or do things get teleported from one location to another?

    It's an important question.

I feel this is probably something for the orbital teleporter as I cant imagine a safe way to fly a nuke through your base at ground level to enter a teleporter :p

This topic has been done many times. There are a billion different teleporter types, but it all grinds down into a few variants that are well understood. All that matters is where you start, where you end up, and how much it costs to get there.

    I vote irrelevant.

It already exists as the Commander.

OP was talking about sending a nuclear missile through the teleporter.

If you want to deliver a nuclear explosion through other means, then go ahead.

Vote still stands within the context of what OP was wanting to accomplish.

I vote absolutely yes. If you're planets away but have a remote orbital teleporter floating around an asteroid near the enemy base, then you don't have to worry about the nuke trying to navigate between planets and asteroids and possibly exploding on the way.

And if your opponent doesn't bother with taking out the (potentially undefended) orbital teleporter, then that's their loss.

Game balance is maintained, as it can be done by any side, theoretically.

I see no reason why this shouldn't happen.

Kinda complicated to implement i guess would be one reason why it probably wont happen, Another would be that once Uber implement adjusting orbits (that is to say flying your nuke ready asteroid from orbit around one thing to orbit another) then you'll have a way to fire nukes at your enemy in a balanced way.

I don't object to the idea though, maybe something for the modders?

What if the teleporter had to charge up to send certain tier units in, so a nuke is tier 5 and takes 15 minutes of charging (sort of like the void crystals of sc2), and once used it destroys the tele cause of the mass amount of energy needed to surge a nuke through.

    Sounds rather arbitrary to me.

Well its to stop the sudden use of a nuke the second you get a gate open, a balance if this was used.

But all you'd be nuking is your gate on the other side......

I mean you would be able to target something on another planet and allow it to fly through to that target

So it's functionally very similar to the current interplanetary Nuke Stuff?

It would be simpler to just forbid nukes to go into the portal in the first place. At the end of the day they are ballistic projectiles, not air units. They currently don't act like ones, but it's because of beta.

As nifty as it might be to have a nuke fly through a gate, it's big and bad enough to fly directly to its target. There's also less chance for things to go horribly horribly wrong.

In Garrys Mod I flew a nuke missile with a camera on it through a stargate. Was pretty nifty.

Would it be useful to do so on PA? Its debatable.
