So a new patch rolled and it's absolutely marvelous! I love the new area commands and notifications! With these in place I am finally starting to believe that having multiple battles on several planets can actually be a possible thing for a one person to handle. However, there's always room for improvement and here's what I miss after playing a few matches. - Auto-grouping: The only thing I miss from Supcom 2 was auto-grouping. It made selecting the same group of units so much easier when your selected units auto-grouped after giving them an order. Assigning a group into a hotkey could and should be optional (pressing ctrl+number). - Better notifications: I realize notifications are a first pass, still I want to say what I'd like to see in the future. First of all, the notifications lack information regarding the planet on which something happened. This can be confusing, as jumping from planet to planet without warning can be disorienting. I would also like to get notifications when a battle-group gets attacked or finishes an order I gave them. This could be combined with auto-grouping which I suggested earlier. - A minor improvement to area commands: So I tested if I could order engineers to capture all mex points on a planet with a single click and sweep. Turns out I can't, half of the ball seems to be the limit since you can't click outside of a planet. I would also like repair and reclaim orders to stay after there is nothing left to repair or reclaim. This would make automating bases you no longer want to supervise possible. Of course these functions could be replaced with a single staying area-assist function that would order engineers to do all of these things at a given area. Other that that, great work! I love these new tools! EDIT: Already patched/ commented on by uber.
I have to agree with everything you said, in perticular the auto unit grouping system, it made things really easy to form individual fighter squadrons etc... The numbers 1-10 are very limiting as I tend to use these very quickly and find myself wanting more control groups.
Better notifications - I think this can be partially fixed with a combination of the new window system they are planning and improvements to the game's camera. Clicking on a notification doesn't need to move the camera if it can just open a new window showing that area. If you DO want the camera to move to the notification, it should move smoothly over to it, zooming out and in automatically if it needs to change planets. This will help you keep track of where you are better. Area commands - I think we should wait for patrol area commands to be added. A group of fabbers on a patrol area command in a base should be able to do all the things you are saying. As for covering a whole asteroid in mexes in one sweep, I agree with you. It would be nice if they made it so that the fabbers queue up the whole planet if your blue circle is larger than the entire planet.
Some neat ideas. Really looking forward to how Uber refines these new features. They're definitely first pass, even by Uber's definition.
