Nope, I can host a 40P FFA, I'm sure Clopse or Grep can as well. We can also use lava planets, 2000+ radius planets and >60 water height planets for this stuff. Though, only the first of those is reasonable.

(Loading a 4500 Radius planet will give you 'connection to server lost,' I've tried...)

That's weird, when I tried to modify the army count the game did just do nothing when I clicked publish game with 11 or more armies.
I didn't experiment further though as people started to join my 5v5v5v5v5v5v5v5 before I actually wanted them to join. So I might have missed something.

Man this 5*5 or is it 5^5 ? Was so awesome. Also worked quite well. Better as the 16v13v13 :D.

This game will definitely be RTS-heaven.

the 20 player game yesterday was pretty funny, though its incredibly hard to play with random guys without voice communication. Especially if you dont know who is responsible for what action.

I know right. We had someone crash one of our asteroids into our other asteroid which lost us the game. ;)

I played in a 40 player match yesterday (10x4). That was fun and I managed to hook up with my team (for me unknown players) via steam chat. I think maybe @zaphodx recorded it? Would be fun to see the match again.

any word on whether Uber will continue to allow modding of the number of players, or even integrate it officially, soon? Or will they likely patch it out in the next update until they are happy with the server performance?

From my conversations with them, I think it's likely this workaround will be patched out soonish. They're tremendous fun, but each game server has 8 slots on it. Needless to say, performance for the other 7 game slots on the server is significantly affected by games of this magnitude.

It's good fun in the meantime, but it's a bit unfair on others until they can optimise the game a bit more :p

EDIT: For clarity, Uber haven't said that they will or they won't; this is me making a prediction.

Thanks for the info. As long as the above stays true, I don't mind waiting :p

I really hope they leave it the way it is currently. The game was way more fun than usually.

My experience of these massive games is very fun to watch, not much fun to play.
Seriously you have no idea how difficult it is to try and co-ordinate with 10+ random players, most of whom probably don't have a very good grasp of the game, without voice chat.

That being said, it's still pretty awesome watching battles unfold on that scale, even if the battle is tipped horrifically in your opponent's favour :)

Yeah, the shared-control team games aren't very effective when there's no communication. I joined one of the 40 player games yesterday and people on my team were fighting over units and commanders, frequently getting them killed.

On the otherhand this is true.
But my mate and I had some good challenges this way.
And a fairly good game which Zaphod commentated on.
