I think you should have rolled him. One of the complaints on the stream is the game looks too slow, someone showing him that it's not all about sitting there and teching for free would have potentially raised more interest.

To be honest, with paper units as a consequence of I don't know what, and Mavor's philosophy of scary laser towers, it's a really bad idea to attack a turtle. The safest thing to do is turtle yourself and build a rekting ball from above. (We should really rename it that.)

Destiny (that stream you linked, not the first one) had a discussion with a dev that had a good idea in it.

He suggested [a hotkey] brings up a quick build interface, where a letter combination lets you build. Like one letter brings you to a "structure catergory" and the buildings in that catergory are always the same letter within that catergory.

So if "ctrl-shift-enter" was the hotkey, you press that ->r ->a, it would select to build a mex, then maybe "ctrl+shift+enter->r->s" would give you powerplant.

So like quickchat in some shooters (CoD Classic, C&C Renegade), but with build options.

I think that system would help with lots of ingame features. That would work with build-select, unit-select, and quick-chat.

    @TheTrophySystem
Sounds like Zulian Hotbuild. Only the most used hotkey mod in FA.

    Aye. It is.

Also, his point on icon-grouping is good too. As identical icons for identical units in mass start to overlap, they should just join in the center and give you a "x12" for 12 of them in the icon corner or something. As you zoom out, they overlap more, so they should group a greater area together.

Also, the bottom build bar needs categorization as well. For instance, when you have multiple flavors of turret/mex/pp/factory in the build options, it should show one of each in a row, followed by arrow keys up and down above and below each individual icon to change which PP it shows in the PP spot or Factory it shows in the Factory spot.

Yo, why are metal extractors making metal for free?

Because you build them on metal spots?

They consume energy, to extract metal, thus boosting the metalpersecond available to you.

Powerplants cost energy and metal to make (which your commander provides), and costs power to run, but supply more power than they consume, so they produce a "net" power and consume essentially nothing because they produce what they consume in a bigger rate.

I know they slow down when in low power, but they don't have a actual power drain.

Well that is kind of sort of the thing. For some reason, this game only consumes power ATM from power surging.

Meaning, a clean power circuit flow, such as ones to idle any building or turret, don't consume power. Most turrets I believe don't use power. Artillery does when it fires because it's larger power consumption than idle, and so does fabrication of any kind because it's power intensive. Anything consuming idle power doesn't cost (possibly yet).

If idle power were to cost, they should make buff powerplants by almost that much power. They are fairly balanced atm. Even t2 power is more acceptable than t2 metal.

Destiny doesn't turtle, he just techs. It's what makes people watching the stream think this is like Sim City (or as desrow said, like legos).

That's way too many keys. Just do the SUPCOM 2 method which was B followed by the letter of the thing you wanted to build. And after pressing B all the letters appeared on the build list.

you quote the Lego analogy almost as if you agree with it. Lilbthebasedlord posted the link where the group was interviewed after the match by chamanav who condesendingly discretly let Desrow know he was being a vocabulary noob and that the correct term was "simcity" which I do agree with you, Destiny (or Desrow) can't possibly blame on the game.

btw I made a metal extractor energy cost thread : https://forums.uberent.com/threads/should-metal-extractors-consume-energy.54006/

Yeah, he really is playing sim city until he reaches the orbital layer. I've several times been wondering wtf he's doing / thinking, but hey, since all the others seem to play sim city too it kinda works.

When that's said, I'm still watching the one I linked earlier, because of job and stuff. But I would really like to see one of you pro's playing against him, and tell him you're going all out before starting, so he knows it's coming. Maybe he'll play better, maybe not, but at least he shouldn't be surprised when doom comes knocking.
