I've decided to keep this in the Backers Forum simply because there's less traffic here, and because I feel that the majority of the people here have been here for a longer amount of time, and can discuss this particular topic a little better. Not to say the General Forums can't do a little searching on their own, but let's be honest here - that's a seemingly rare occurrence. I haven't been able to fine a definitive yes or no to this, but would you guys say that the stretch goals should be ready for release (December)? I've always gone under the assumption that the stretch goals were exactly that, stretch goals. IE, things to be primarily completed after the main 900K goal, which the December release was sort of based around. I've seen various posts saying that the stretch goals are apart of the main release, and it's causing people to think that the game is going to be delayed. Although I understand why they have that reaction, I think that sort of logic is silly, but it could be easily remedied by a definitive answer to the question: Are the stretch goals supposed to be apart of the main release?
This is such a grey area I reckon that they can release it when they like. They could even go as fair and name the t2 power "gas giant" and get away with it. Legally of course. I have heard stories of other kickstarter games being 2 years behind schedule and nout can really be done about it once it's finished. This won't happen with PA. All we are missing is gas giants, galactic war, and at the minute orchestral. I know they begun recording orchestral several weeks ago. From what Garat said today, it maybe takes 3 days to make a unit. And I would be shocked if they hadn't started with some sort of galactic war to date.
Most of the stretch goals are in already. I am primarily concerned about the unit and structure roster being completed before release.
They aren't more than two months behind based on their rate of patching. They definitely have stuff in the near complete state, especially orchestral soundtrack. They definitely worked on galactic war, ui second pass, and gas giant, they said that in fact somewhere recently when they also said they have a new group of developers in the team and that caused them to go silent for a little bit, go search it. As far as that goes, this game is very functional now, if you use mods it even looks polished with ui and mild fps optimization. I'm fairly sure the people saying "there is no way they will finish" are wrong, there is still some chance they can add orbital roster, unit canon, regular roster, gas giant, and galactic war. If not, I'm sure they will find some way to delay main release and still appeal to current backers and players.
Keep in mind, we have absolutely no idea how far ahead Uber's internal version is, compared to what's publicly available. They probably have a bunch of finished unit models and textures with half-done coding and balancing and such, simply not ready to be implemented just yet. Or I might be wrong. I really hope they'd rather delay the game instead of releasing it unfinished, I want to see them getting good reviews and getting filthy rich. If they release an unfinished game, no amounts of patching and continuing support will fix the hit they receive due to bad reviews upon launch.
Lets look at the stretch goals and break it down; 1] Naval Units & Water planets Yup got those, Water planet starts still need more gameplay refinement but they are there. 2] Gas Giants & Orbital Units Got the Orbital units(or at least the potential/systems for them) but still missing the Gas Giants, thought compared to other planets types they are probably going to be very much FX driven in terms of the visuals so it's understandable that we haven't seen them just yet. 3] Metal & Lava Planets Both of these are present, Metal planets are still missing the some key features but are other wise accounted for 4] Galactic War This is the only one that is really missing at the moment......but given what Galactic War Actually is, it's not surprising we haven't seen it yet, the core gameplay still needs a lot of work and any work down on the Galactic War can happen in Isolation for the rest of the gameplay stuff really. 5] Full Orchestral Score Seeing as they've already finished recording the Orchestra, I'd say it's on track for Release. 6] Planetary Documentary This is also one we haven't seen anything about specifically yet other than a few mentions that things are being recorded for it. Of course if it's a proper documentary we won't likely see it until after release as I'm sure they have some release centric content for that because it's still a big milestone for a Developer even in this day and age of Day 1 patches and just patching in general. So yeah.......I don't think there really is anything to worry about
I'm waiting so much for the ochestral score ! Can't wait to listen to this while crushing armies of robots =)
Also something I forgot to add but just because we don't see progress on these things in the patches and updates doesn't mean they aren't being worked on over at Uber. Mike
Yep. We will refine naval a bit more, may slim it up a bit as well. Some more orbital units to come. Gas giants themselves aren't too hard to add. The main thing is planets you can't land on and some more plumbing support. Regardless they are lower priority than a lot of other things. So the Galactic War stuff is well under way now. However, it's going to get phased in over time. The first stuff to show up will be the local single player galactic war, with only multiplayer coming later. Yep, it's all been recorded! The mixing is a lot of work but Howard is on top of it. We still have VO recording to do. We have a ton of footage. Once we are finished we'll edit it down to an actual doc. Not sure how long this will take but it's obviously not going to be day one of release since that should be part of it. We have an entire team of people working very very hard every day to make all of this stuff happen.
And more, I hope I have no idea what I am talking about here, but any cool stuff in the pipe we haven't heard about/you guys are considering?
The Goals/Features mentioned above where in the Kickstarter. They have been known since the production of the games started.
ofc.....i was jsut wondering if there is anything new and exciting they havent announced yet......if not, then ok. we can wait
Most of these things take time. They have promised 40 player games at the minimum. They also promised to work on it long after development. Half the units haven't been implemented
