    Hi All,

I am having trouble running PA with my laptop. The laptop is about 2 months old and is running Windows 8.1 (feel free to swear at me for that ;))

I am getting a error on startup ONLY when PA is set as high performance in Catalyst Control Centre, Switchable graphics.

When not in high performance the game will start but the graphics are fine in the menus but quite often will not render the game area.

This machine has a Intel HD Graphics 4000 and AMD 7600M 2GB grahics cards.
    The error is below:

Also attached is the content of my DXDiag.

    Thanks in advance!

Your drivers for both GPUs is outdated, you need to update them.

    Intel HD4000:
    Code:
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    Driver Date/Size: 9/4/2012 15:21:32, 12602368 bytes
Download and install "Win64_15335.exe" from Intel website:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23323

    Radeon (TM) HD 7670M:
    Code:
    9/18/2012
    Open this page:
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows 8 - 64
First try to download and run "AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool". If it's give you drivers to install just use them.

If it's say that your hardware isn't compatible you need do that:
    1. Backup important information from laptop.
    2. Download and install "Latest Beta Driver" from same page.
Usually generic drivers don't cause any problems, but I'm recommend back backups anyway.

Sorry to question but regarding installing the Beta drivers, are you sure this is ok as the comments on the download page says:

"The following notebooks are not compatible with this tool:
    Notebooks equipped with switchable graphics"

Then you can leave old driver for Intel integrated card, or you can install driver from ZIP using this instruction:
    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033916.htm

In very rare situations usage of generic drivers might cause issues with screen resolution or backlight, this is why I recommend backups. Though I'm helped for many many people on this forum and nobody's system was broken by generic drivers.

In 99% of time there is no issues with generic drivers and even if there issues you have no choice because laptop manufacturers always abandon any updates really fast. Obviously game won't work properly with outdated drivers.

    Hi Sxx,

I just wanted to thank you for your assistance. The steps above have worked for me. I didn't update the Intel drivers, only the AMD ones.

Its like playing a different game!

    Thanks

    Fly.
