Hello, I just downloaded PA this morning, really excited, as my friend had got the game and showed me the system editor and whatnot. I have the latest beta version, and before i even played i dove into the system editor to make cool systems.

First bug: I try to build a small desert planet, size 200, close to the sun. As soon as I click "Build" to render the planet, the game crashes. I try again, same thing. I try a regular size desert planet, all default settings. Game crashes. And this was wierd. I had built the same planet on my friend's system, and this hadn't happened.

    That was issue one.

Second bug: I try to build a regular size earth planet. Click build, all ok, planet renders and everything. Then I add an ice moon, size about 400. Click build, game crashes.

That was issue two. Then, i tested all the planet types at regular size. I could build all of them except desert and ice, I don't know why.

Third Bug: I try to build a jungle planet. Build it, it's ok. Modify it to temperature 100 to try make a desert planet in round about way, click build and game crashes. Try the same with an earth planet to get a desert one, and it crashes.

That's when i decided to try avoid desert and ice planets, oh well, i can still have fun with cool orbits at least.

Fourth Bug: When saving a solar system that has planets with elliptical (oblong, not round) orbits, when i load the system again to continue editing the orbits have returned to regular round orbits. All my painstaking orbital modifications were gone.

I thought, ok, maybe planets can't have elliptical orbits, maybe that'll come later.

Fifth Bug: I made a moon that had an elliptical orbit around a planet, and i hit simulate. It all went ok. I stopped the simulation when the moon was at the farthest point away from the planet. When i loaded the game again, The moon had been given a planetary orbit around the sun, instead of around the planet.

Now I was starting to get a bit annoyed. My friend had told me the system editor was epic, but with all these limitations/bugs... I didn't know what to think!

Sixth Bug: Naming Planets. The one thing I wanted to do was give my planets cool names. But even that was patchy at best. I would change the name, but as soon as I clicked "edit planet" the name was lost. I would change the name again, hit the "save" button, and closed, The name was lost. I went back into edit, renamed, hit save, and then clicked build. After several minutes of waiting for build (this was a simple system with one planet and one moon), the name was finally changed.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the editor. Is there a full tutorial on the system editor somewhere? I know it seems pretty straightforward, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Maybe my computer isnt good enough (which i doubt, quad core i7 ivy bridge processor with 16 GB ram and nvidia gtx 560 graphics card). Maybe there's a problem with my internet connection, I don't know if you need super highspeed or not, mines on the average. Or maybe it's just beta bugs.

But if there's something I need to do to make it work properly, please somebody let me know. Else I may need to wait till December (full release) before I can even hope to play system editor without bugs like these occurring.

Graphics card is your bottle neck. (There are 600 and 700s out. 770 is the best bang for buck I think) Also game is in beta and system editor clearly isn't finished. Have you tried actually playing the game?

Thanks. I figured out what it was actually, just a stupid mistake on my part. I forgot to Verify files on startup. After i did that, i didnt seem to have a problem. I'll leave this thread up though, in case some one else has a problem like this, it may help.

elliptical orbits don't seem to work for me.
but i notice more things save and work as intended when i use the random generate a name feature for a planet before saving it.
i hope that helps :) its not a solve for all your issues but it may fix a few.
