No reason why we can't have both. One game type where people are diplomatic allies, and another game type where everyone is on the same team. Becomes player choice then and enables them to play how they like.
I get that people sometimes currently control multiple commanders if they're going on an offensive, but if the commander is supposed to be the player's avatar, in control of all the planetary forces, then really I don't see it as unreasonable to lock down one commander per player.
or just make it so the c key selects your com. And maybe have a little nametag over each comm--this would be useful for casting too I imagine, because then you can see who is who on a team.
Why not just have an block feature for certain user... so if you do encounter one you can at least just ignore them and ban them from joining future games you enter into.
I really like the way DOTA2 does it, but it would need some modification to work in a freeform RTS like PA. If enough people report you, you are simply moved to a "lower" matchmaking tier, where you can only see and join games set up by other players in the "lower" tier. This way all of the trolls, assholes and horrible people get grouped together where they can yell at one another simultaneously, instead of at us.
Will we have the ability to give our commanders to another player. I ended up in a match in which I was managing a planet, while my teammate was building engines on the moon. He ended up with the commanders for safekeeping while he did that. If we're going to have commanders only we can use, it'd be good to be able to allow other players to use them. Then he rammed the moon into the planet...
I ran into this last week, a player who lost his side through exceptionally bad play on his end ended up deciding it was his right to lay claim to my commander, and my base. I asked him to please stop, and that I had a survival strategy to at least get off the planet before I died. Initially he kept building on the home planet, while I finally was able to get off the planet and start building on a moon. I offered to let him take an advanced builder to another free planet, but he continued messing with my commander and kept trying to pick him up because he wanted to put him on something other than a moon. This was despite my insistence that he leave me and my commander alone, and use a builder instead. Ultimately he continued to screw me over by undoing all of my build orders, we kept struggling for control of my commander (again, his died), and he refused to go do his own thing on another planet. When he couldn't get his way, he deleted everything we had, and not only laughed about it in game, but went on to troll me in the lobby of another as well. It was an extremely frustrating experience, and one I'd rather not have again. In my opinion at the very least there should be an option to not share your own units / buildings with other players. Otherwise situations like this will continue to happen from time to time, which is really a huge turn off.
Disagree! I've played 1 v 2's through to 2 v 5's and won 99% of the time. Remember to challenge yourself! You will only get better! And FYI i love inhouse 2v2v2v1's when im the solo player!!! LOVE IT!!
I delete peoples commanders. I had some idiot build a factory right at the start, start pumping out engineers, and go straight for adv fac. Stalled the whole economy. That's utter selfishness i just cannot forgive. Another time i was building my own things, and some idiot kept trying to grab my commander, canceling my build order, etc.. I can forgive it if it's just once or twice, but this was a struggle, back and forth, he just didn't get the message. So i don't play team games anymore, it's mainly for clan members and/or friends (people you can trust)
How about an in-game option in a drop down menu (activated by clicking the economy thing at the top of the screen) that allows you to toggle sharing of economy, buildings, troops and the commander with other players in your team. Each player has a check-box which can be used to share specific things. (E.G. You don't want someone using your commander but wouldn't mind allowing him/her to use your armies. You also give them your eco so that he can get frontier outposts up. You turn on sharing for eco and units with that particular person ONLY.)
Two of you vs one of you.. the two will win every time... I hate the "well just outplay them" analogy... Like when warriors would cry about mages.. "oh just out play the mage then noob".. no.. just no. Yes it's possible to win a 1 v 5 but it is by no means fair.. and if your enemys are decent you will lose. Sorry to get all on the defensive.. I just hate the outplay them argument lol. I still did try to win, the c-man rush can be very devistating.
