Hello, and welcome to my mod This is my first mod ever, and I've brought my ok art skills to the fore to make an alternate UI, at the moment aiming to have an alternate to the bottom bar icons, and strategic icons. What's the point of this? The focus is on making it easier to pick out which building is what, and what unit you want to pick, more quickly and without accidentally picking a vehicle factory rather than a bot factory, also it aims to make a set of readable and high quality strategic icons. I'll be taking advice and criticism as it comes, to make sure this is good for a 'wider audience', so please pitch in your thoughts if something is bugging you. Now for the important stuff! Screenshots and what has been done so far A couple of posts down, but link's here anyway: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/ui-that-other-ui-mod-v-0-2-b-54574.52235/#post-797752 Each build bar icon and strategic icon together https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-that-other-ui-mod-v-0-61-b-55089.52235/page-2#post-805216 What's in the ZipTOUM - The mod files to be put into the /mods folder Details and Explanations - Readme, and some images to explain colours/icons if you're confused at all. Installation Details are provided in the zip for the different OS'es, but the basic gist between all 3 is that you're putting the main TOUM folder (not the details and explanations) into ../Planetary Annihilation/modsin your AppData user folder, after that it should work. If you can't find the folder, its because in most cases it's hidden, for this enter \Appdata\local in the address bar after your username, in the case of Windows 7 users. If you want just the build bar icons and not the strategic icons as well, or vice versa: Go into the TOUM folder, and look for either icon_atlas, or build_bar, and delete the one you want to get rid of: icon_atlas - strategic icons build_bar - build bar icons The latest update has broken this mod, and will cause the PA startup to throw a black screen and error, to fix go to the mod's .json file, and edit the text after "enabled" from true to false To alter it you can open it with: notepad/notepad++/eclipse The latest update has seemingly dropped the new way of doing things - my thoughts are to develop it further, I'm looking into making this mod work via the UI Mod Manager at the moment; If you want to use the icons now, then you have the option of backing up the PA ui program files somewhere, and copy-pasting these icons into the folder, the way the files are setup, they'll drop into the correct place. WIP: (What is being worked on currently)===Build Bar Buildings Refining Units Refining New commander bot ===Strategic Icons Refining ===Other Making planet icons Changelog:0.62 Build Bar: Tweaked the vehicle basic tank to not be over-sized compared to the other units Strategic Icons: Tweaked factories Tweaked Economy buildings Tweaked some odd units Tweaked some defenses Other: Tweaked the profile icon further 0.61 Build bar: Radar and Radar Adv. have had their icons thickened up some to be more readable AA-Turret has been reversed to differentiate from the laser towers Laser towers have had their directions made more horizontal, and a different colour to differentiate from the AA turret Strategic Icons: Economy buildings have been redone to new style/sub-icon styles Ships have a rounded end now, little niggle someone brought up Other: Worked on some general images showing which strat. icon goes with which build icon (Also linked above into a new post) 0.6 Build Bar: A bit more tweaking done here and there, now all units are in and done as of 6th Oct Shared: Avatar had some more refining, nothing that noticeable Strategic Icons: Almost all are done save for the generic icons, with this all of the units you can use have a new icon; Please give feedback if you find one of them awkward to understand, or find an Uber-made one, which should be fairly noticeable from the new ones I think. Another note is that some colours don't really work with the icon setup I have, especially White, with this change I don't have any ideas on how to make it work, if you have an idea please post it. 0.5 All: resized all icons by using a 0.1 thick line box to make sure all icons are 60x60, so no more odd squishing =====live_game===== build_bar: Orbital units in all ships in advanced bots in slight rework of fabricator aircraft - tweaked the construction lines so that the advanced is easier to work out, however it might need another tweak status_bar: put coloured metal and energy icons in =====shared===== made a vector version of the profile icon, so if you see it, you'll know the mod is working correctly put coloured metal and energy icons in place of the white metal/energy ones 0.4 =====live_game===== build_bar: Sub Fabricator All Vehicles All Aircraft 0.3 =====live_game===== build_bar: All fabricators except Sub Alpha/Delta Commanders Some minor changes to existing icons 0.2 =====live_game===== build_bar: Factories, Defenses, Orbital-related buildings, Superweapons Nuke, Nuke ammo, anti-nuke ammo Sea buildings 0.1 =====live_game===== build_bar: Basic Bots, Mass Extractor and Energy Plant

I love this. My one crit is the yellow/black striping. You have to be really careful with this combo because it really stands out - to the point that it distracts from the rest of the UI in a bad way. I'd suggest reducing the area of the icon that is striped, or remove it entirely and give them a construction sub-icon like you've done with mass, energy, etc. Looking forward to seeing more.
Did a version, how about these? Brown/Stripes - Factory/Fabricators Also if all things go well all the defenses will be in today.
Finished off the fabricators and commanders: Commanders Alpha and Delta Bots Vehicles - The rest work; but the vehicles, with them having mostly the same base, I thought it would be best to focus on the turret and gun, and have the base behind it, any thoughts? Aircraft Ships They're in V0.3, putting it up later after some checking, next up are advanced bots and ships. Edit: Nevermind on the vehicles, think I found a good layout for them.
Finished all vehicles and aircraft (Also the fabricator sub, which I forgot about) However some of them are coming out warped from being resized to 60x60, so that's on my list of things to do for when all the icons are done, that way I'll be able to make sure they're all equal-ish in size; for now though, making progress! Also next upload I'll bring in my strategic icon ideas for each type, get some feedback on them.
Version 0.5 is up, got all the build_bar stuff ingame now, save for units/buildings Uber has yet to add Couple of Orbitals: Now for the strategic icons, here is what I have so far The separate units under the outlines I've yet to work on; Also by other defense I mean radar, barriers and any other 'passive' defense I think is the term. Superweapon also includes superweapon defense, although that could be spun off into a separate icon. With the bombers, I think it might be good to separate bombers from fighters, although that's up for debate.
Back with all strategic icons, want some feedback on them: Order of units here, I'm looking for help on the outlines, outline difference between tiers and icons inside, they all look ok to me from far off, which if you want to test looks somewhat close to how large the orbital icons are below. Icons from left to right: Left facing arrow is a scout. Crossed lines is direct fire. 3 vertical lines up is anti-air. Solid circle is artillery/long range. Solid diagonal lines are fabricators Air specific: Downward facing solid triangle is a bomber. Slight bent line means fighter Naval specific: Right facing solid triangle with line is a above sea direct fire. 3 solid lines up is a missile ship/long range Horizontal line and 3 vertical lines up is sub-specific as of now. Circle and 3 blocks is the nuke sub Orbital specific: Block and line around is the transport unit. Fighter outline with bent line is the orbital fighter Downward split solid triangle is the laser Economy on land and sea, and factories. Right side solid black are the metal related buildings. Left side solid black are the energy related buildings. Squares inside of them are storage - could bring the square out along the left/right-most pentagon edge or something. Factories are pretty obvious. Land defenses and superweapons, and sea defenses; Square is offensive defense, tall is passive defense. Upwards lines and block is the AA tower. Horizontal lines and block is the laser tower. Diagonal blocks are the artillery Upwards single block is the tactical missile tower Radar towers are pretty much the same as in the normal game, minus the vertical line to it. The barrier seems ok, but I think it needs something else. The triangles are superweapons, with the nuke having it's sign and the defense being the other one. The same icons continue to the sea versions, save for: 3 Diagonal blocks are the torpedo launchers Square and 4 lines is the mine. And there we go, those are all the icons, thoughts?
cant get it to work, where to install? the appdata folder is not existing and in the regular mod folder, it doesnt work^^
The appdata is a hidden folder, if (on windows 7) you put in the address bar \appdata\local after your username it should go to the correct folder, and it won't work in the program files ui\mods folder due to Uber reworking how mods work
Which OS are you on? I only know Windows 7 And to find it another way is in: start menu -> search programs and files -> search for %AppData% -> for me it comes up with Roaming, from that go up a folder, then to local -> in that is Uber Entertainment, then Planetary Annihilation, then mods -> in that, from the zip goes TOUM, not details and explanations That help?
i know how to get to appdata, I told you xD Im on win 7 too, but there is no Uber Entertainment folder in my appdata folders^^ did you install with steam? Maybe its only there if installed with steam?
No I installed from the downloadable from Uber's store. I guess the way to do it is create the same layout of folders (Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\mods) , other than that I'm out of ideas, because according to this post: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/beta-mod-changes.51520/ The way I have this mod setup is how it'll work from here on, I guess ask via another thread about it not being created. (Also sorry about the long wait for this reply)
A path like C:\Users\ColaColin\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation has to exist already, as it is required for PA to function properly. You're looking not hard enough
