So I know that Uber is thinking about possible putting in a mini-map (which I would love them for) but I know it is liking pulling teeth out for them. Don't know what they don't like about them, but if it is such a pain to them, they could have scout cams. So this ability allows players to build scouts (ground, air, orbital) and then they can click on that unit and have a little window that comes up and it will follow the unit over the planet. With this you can actually set your unit on a scout path or patrol and continue building your base will seeing what your scout is seeing.
That's already the kind of thing one can expect from the Multi-window functionality Uber wants to do. Mike
Multiple monitors will be implemented eventually. This could be close to what you are looking for. (assuming we can track camera to unit) *mike beat me to it ha.
Are they planning on having small windows or just big ones for multi monitors? Because I was thinking in the bottom left or right corner of the screen. We will see.
Just a point of clarification, Multiple monitors isn't quite correct, although Uber wants to do that as well it's not needed to open multiple windows. Mike
Ya i was aware of that, had a feeling that clarification was on its way. I would never have two windows in a main screen though. Probably main window then multi window on other screen. Too messy to look at.
I would have to agree with him, now if it was a real tiny window for like my idea that would be fine with me. But all my multi-windows on my left monitor.

But all my multi-windows on my left monitor.
From what the Devs have said the windows could be any size you'd want, so you could do some small windows easily enough I imagine. Fact remains you wouldn't need a second monitor to make use of the multi window feature. A second monitor might be more organized but not required. Mike

Mike
True, but my left monitor has been dying to be played on. lol Well I figure I will have two small windows on each bottom corners of my main screen for scout following and then I will have four or so windows on my left screen for the different planets I'm on.
I'm pretty sure there's already a unit tracking function in the game. It's key binding is certainly in the settings anyway, I haven't checked the functionality.
So there are no plans for a mini-map then? That is a bummer, as I was really wanting one in the first game I just played.
They will experiment, but until they have things like the Multi-windows going and such it's hard to say how much a minimap would be needed, it's been rehashed again and again on the forums, a quick forum search should get you all the threads talking about it. Mike
Would be nice if you could set a scout to assist a combat unit and the scout then patrols the outer limit of the units firing range. That way it'd be much more useful to have scout planes with an attack force and not a must to build a Radar Satellite.
From my understanding you would be able to click on the mini windows, and that would either A) Bring your main screen to that point. or B) Swap the two screens, leaving where you were at on the main screen to the mini window, and the mini window becoming your main screen Either way seems really cool, and will be a great way to put my two monitors to use
And that makes me think about mounting a second monitor on the wall above my main screen... Wasn't there already a way to set certain points with a key combo so you could jump to that location with an easy keystroke?
