Game scale vs. real life

    Hello! I've gotten it in my head that I absolutely need to recreate our solar system in the system editor as accurately as possible. I've been working on it for quite some time now, but I can't seem to figure out the game's scale versus what the real life equivalent is. It's very obvious that the game is nowhere near real life, but what is the conversion fraction? 1/2? 1/20? I feel like this would be much easier to figure out if the numbers used had units. Are we in metric or imperial?

    i dont think the system editor allows for a small enough planet to give the realistic ratio of our sun to the earth. Certainly not in distance anyways.

    Distance is not really a concern, because it is almost laughably different than real life, but I understand that for gameplay reasons. However, I would like the mass and radius of each planet scaled down into the game's scale. I'd like it to be visually accurate, at least.

    There is no specific scale, or rather there are several depending on which specific aspect you are looking at.

    For example the the units, as per the old Whitebox Pics, a Commander is about 10-12 Meters tall. The planets don't use that as a scale because if you were to scale out any planets you can realistically use in PA wouldn't be large enough to be called a planet.

    And when you get to part of the planet spacing in terms of it being a system it's a completely different scale.

    Honestly you're better off not thinking about the scale at all and just exploding planets instead.

    Short answer is, the builder simply isn't scientific enough to do a recreation any real justice.
    1/10 ratio gave me a pretty decent representation; but with a lot of concessions.

    No asteroid field really ruins it for me too; makes traveling to the very large/strategically profound larger planets too easy. Or gave too large of a player advantage for those starting on Jupiter and Saturn, versus those starting on Earth, Mars or smaller planets.

    Jupiter had about 200 nodes, Earth had 57 or so.

    Further to all of that; it appears scalling within planets and outside of planets are not the same.

    Yeah, I've been just making a rough estimation, using Jupiter as the maximum size and making everything visually nice from there. It's not terrible, but it will have to do. Thanks!

    You can't do distance obviously because things are way too far apart, but you can do size. I made a map of the inner solar system out to mars that I thought worked pretty well. Gas giants are not implemented yet and anything over 4-5 planets starts to get really laggy, so I'm waiting for some new patches to come out before doing more

    What I did was I took the diameter of the planets in miles (it was at a better scale than Kilometers so no conversion needed) and took off a decimal point

    3,032 Miles - Mercury = 303 in Game
    7,521 Miles - Venus = 752 in Game
    7,918 Miles - Earth = 791 in Game
    1,079 Miles - Moon = 107 in game
    4,212 Miles - Mars = 421 in game

    You could multiply by 1.25 or 1.5 if you think overall they should be bigger. I think this scale would be good though because the outer planets are flippin enormous, Jupiter would be a whopping 8688 in game with this scale which is just huge. Currently trying to calculate a planet at the biggest setting (2000) fills all 8 gigs of my RAM up and crashes it :-( But, if they get the RAM usage down and get it to where it doesn't crash, the other planets would be:

    86,881 Miles - Jupiter = 8688 In Game
    72,367 Miles - Saturn = 7236 In Game
    31,518 Miles - Uranus = 3141 In Game
    30,599 Miles - Neptune = 3059 In Game
    715 Miles - Pluto = 71 In Game (I think they have a minimum of 100 or 200, something like that, at the moment so this wouldn't work)

    You can see part of it in my mercury killing earth video (note, I killed the moon already) Also I didn't add any other moons but our own, there are tons of them

    given that there is a factor of around 30 between the diameters of Mercury and Jupiter it will be hard to have usable differences on any scale given the limits of the system editor.
    and that's ignoring:
    - the scale of on planet measures (trees, units, buildings) to planet sizes
    - the scale between Jupiter and Sun (another 20k factor)

    any recreation will have to be symbolic, not that there is anything wrong with it. Most representations of the solar system are (if you want to have a complete view and see something from the smaller planets).
    just take the maximum difference the system editor allows and project the size differences of the planets onto that range, when using fitting planet styles that should produce a recognizable image.

    I guess its partially doable if you ignore the sun, but it doesnt look very 'realistic'

    Yeah there is absolutely no way to make the suns scale correct. The sun is 864,327 miles, at the scale I was doing, would be size 86432... which is 43 times bigger than the biggest planet we can make that always crashes when I try and do it. I thought my little solar system using those scales, out to mars, looked really good... its on my home computer or I'd upload screenshots of it
