First of all, is there a way to watch the replay of a game that recently ended, and that you exiting from already? It always says that there are hundreds of replays available (as shown below), but can we watch a game that isn't currently running? Second, in the Watch Replay screen, there is a CODE at the bottom of the screen. What is that for?
would like to know this also, but I dont think there is a save function yet to save replays as far as I know? I didn't think you would watch ppl playing live, thought it just joined you in a live match?
So we weren't able to get this working before the beta released. We have replays working in the office, but the ability to load a replay from Ubernet isn't quite ready.
Cool...sounds like it's close then. Thanks, masterdigital! Will the CODE option at the bottom of the replay screen stay there when it is implemented? What is that for? Also, I would think that you would have a separate tab within the replays area, for replays of the games you've played. Another fantastic option would be, much like they did in Starcraft 2, to integrate the ability to watch the replay and then be able to jump in and play it as whichever army you wanted to take control of, from whatever point you select. The remaining players in the game could be taken over by the AI, or even better, by other people, or a mix of both. Just a wishlist item.
so these replays will they be able to be saved? will they be saved to our computer or the severs? if severs will there be a limit to how many can be saved?
Thats how they work. The games replay (the chronocam) is in itself also the games save system. So you can jump in wherever you want.
Currently, games are played on Uber's servers, and aren't saved (or if they are, are not available to us yet). In the future (probably just before final release), they will be/can be saved to the individual PC of all the players, and probably any watchers, too.
How do you take over for someone in the replay, and choose the player that you want to take over for? I'm thinking for games that you didn't play in originally, or if you wanted to take another players' position in the replay of your game? I guess we will see the mechanics that they build into it to do that when it's done.
As you say, we'll have to wait and see. This part of the game will be one of those "cutting edge" visions.
Lets just start by being able to save replays, don't get me wrong, I am just as excited as all you are 'for the flesh to be added to the bones', but let us not forget, at the vengance of great pain and torment, that this is simply a beta. I would also love for PA to be where SCFA is, but give it time, I ******* LOVE it so far DAMN!
Also, more to the point to the Original Poster, yes there is, you DO NOT END THE GAME THAT YOU HAVE JUST FINISHED ... AND YOU USE THE CHRONO CAM TO 'REWIND THE GAME'.
Still no way to 'save the game for everyone to watch later though, like on Forged alliance Forever lobby'
Afaik we are saving the replays for all games already (since the start of beta), it's just an issue of being able to access them from the client.
If this is true then is this incredible! I know this will put you in a little bit of a pinch, but do you have any WILD ideas of a timescale? And while I have the opportunity taking to an uber employee, I would simply like to ask you to pass a message along to your friends ..... You are doing an amazing job! Keep this game in line with what Mavor originally wanted. SUPCOM FA ... the next in the series and you will not fall short. It is what everyone wants. KEEP GOING UBER!!!!!!!!!!
I think I heard this in one of the early live streams, but will we be able to view replays no matter what version we're on? I think I heard we will... One really anoying thing especially in this day and age where games get updated so much these days, having to start all over again with a bunch of new replays does get anoying sometimes.......
It has been said that replays from old version of the game will be replayable with newer version of the client. That is because the outputs of the simulation are saved instead of inputs for the simulation like it is in most other games. How is this going to work with planet generation? How do you ensure the planets are the same if some of the patches between replay and client changed planet generation? Do you intend to save the generated planets with each replay?
Being able to replay old games isn't something unique to us, many games have done it before. Many do it by actually having all past versions of the game either on disk or downloaded when you want to watch old replays. For us we're taking advantage of the client / server model having everything pre-simulated so it's just a matter of playing back what was recorded. There are still some gotchas here like if we change art replays will look different, and we haven't exactly tested all of this working as we only just got replays saving and playing back. It is however our goal to support playback of old replays. It's quite plausible during beta we'll have to make changes that break old replays for being playable.
Very nice ! So the next tournament will be 100% available in replay ! I'll have to get two screens, one for the ZaphodX youtube video and one for the game replay (or some modders will add a youtube client ingame)
Yeah that's fine I have no problem with broken old replays durring the beta, really that just has to be expected to be honest, I was just curious and couldn't remember if I had heard right about older replays. Just having that feature in is pretty awesome in itself. Thanks for the info.
