Thought I'd start this due to the response to the one made for the 1st faction to be 'released' (Can't think of the correct word for it as of typing this) for community vote, and to keep up the vector art stream. Now whilst we don't have a 2nd or 3rd faction as of now to work on, we can work on a symbol for the Progenitors, and possible other ideas for banners, we can also work on clan avatars if the demand is there, but for now, stick with the Progenitors. To start with, from what I know a good idea to work from is a Monolith or All-seeing eye kind of thing, with dark green as a possible base colour. I've got a couple ideas to work on, anyone else want to pitch a drawing/idea? (Quick addon edit: ) As a holdover from the last thread, the symbol should be able to be re-sized down to approximately 60x60 and have the outline/general look still be discernible; this is if they are put into the game as decals/flags or banners of some nature, and as good practice - a solid outline or design trumps a stylish and complicated one. If there are any other tips mentioned by you people I'll put them here/link to them with a credit.
I will, after the dev team has finished up some more and when we get closer to release I'll take a crack at it, for now I'll keep my skills to making symbols, which I'll put a dump of the ones so far when I get around to the first Progenitor's and after some other people have commented on the starting idea.
I think the base color should just be the same shade of blue we've seen in all the concept art of them as of yet because anything else just wouldn't feel right
When I think of the progenitor for some reason I think of Blue Crabs.... So this is just something I whiped up.... I'll still need to refine it... Just getting this ball rolling So with that said... My Symbol has the Classic progenitor color in the shape of a sphere like a planet with three suns symbolizing multiple star systems with the blue crab... Blue Crabs are insanely aggressive to people and each other... They would soon as steal each others food and run with it as they would also cut your fingers off...
I like it; but I'd say move all the suns in between the claws, as it is they're just sitting there, also maybe a ring of planets around them and it could be cool, but then may get a little fiddly, see what happens I guess. Anyway, finished with the Progenitor symbols I had in my head, took a little longer than I wanted but came out good imo nonetheless: Kept to blue/green due to rawrfishes reminding about the concept art.
Hmmm. Those Progenitors, they spread through the galaxy like a cancer. Cancer? Geddit? Geddit... I should go. Nice symbols btw.
I finished the Theta's symbol: I'm sorry, but Theta looks like a sideways beer keg to me. I think he's the cutest Commander! Also, Uber, I'm still waiting for a "Buy Theta Plushie" button. I will throw more money at you if I can have one.
Drawing some Inspiration from your design mrcthulhu the Monolith.... LOVE IT So I tied it into the Crab aka Cancer with Cogs as suns with an all in one Cog surrounding the monolithic Cancer for the "All is One" Idea. And the stand alone with no variant. Btw, No Problems from me Tripper, I liked the mouth piece so I used it as well. Swapping ideas is the name of the forum game imo.
Thanks man. I love how it all came together, and your monolith though. I still like it alot as well. But now the next question is what are going to be the next set of faction symbols to work on while we wait for Uber to set up the next factions. Thinking on that since I have basically done Cancer for the Progenitor ... I wonder if I should try my hand at other astrology symbols... If I gain inspiration while at work today, I'll have more when I get back.
Well if anything, I'd say that a good starting place to think from: A more Guerrilla-Tactics faction, focusing on more lighting-speed attacks and trying to out-smart the other Factions' commanders, originating from a system made from a strong variety of planets for them to practice in and with enemies on every side. Can't think of a standard colour other than the cliche jungle-green, so suggestions anyone?
