    Hi everyone,

I'm the Monk and since I have two gaming rigs (one is a backup and when I don't need it to be a backup I run dedicated servers on it for the various mostly FPS games I like to play).

server name: the Monk's [dedicated server]
Please leave me some feedback on how the server is running etc.

I will setup a public TeamSpeak in the next few days. Check back for more info......

    thanks,

    the Monk

    EDIT:
Now on the latest patch and once again online and testing......

    servername: the Monk's [dedicated server]
    location: Canada (central)
    connection: 1Mbps+ upload
    hardware: E8500 C2D (4GB RAM)
options: no juice-buying, 15-min matches, 2-limit per class, NO OVERTIME! :)
    Have fun!

    Thanks

    the Monk

    EDIT EDIT:

    SERVER TEMPORARILY OFFLINE!

Where are you located? I'd like to know whether I'll get 40 or 400 ping.

Sorry, guess I should have included that in my post. :)

Smack dab in the center of Canada. When hosting for other FPS games I haven't had any complaints from those located in what could be called the "central US". Sometimes people from the "eastern US" have a slightly elevated ping to my server but I found that varied from game to game as well.

As stated, I'm running the game on a dedicated box (nothing else is happening on it).
    Intel C2D E8500
    4GB RAM
    1GB Asus 4870 (I know.....it's wasted as a dedicated server...lol)
with a dedicated 1Mbps+ upload internet connection

Do you have good luck running servers on a 1mbps connection? I've never run a dedicated server before mnc, but I ran one most of yesterday just due to the lack of servers out there.

I've got a little less than 3mbps up according to speedtest.net and I wasn't sure if that was sufficient. I figured it was better than nothing though.

No dedicated box (playing on the same rig I'm hosting from) but my core 2 quad seems to handle it fine.

Depending on the game I can sometimes host up to 20-man servers for other FPS games on my connection. My connection may not have the fastest UPLOAD (come on we need FIOS up here.... :p ) but it is rock-solid and stable at 1Mbps+ upload (my D/L is 25Mbps). Because the upload is always AT LEAST 1Mbps I can customize certain network traffic rules etc and therefore make sure that *most* people enjoy lag-free gaming on my server.

I never do anything else on the rig which is being used to host.......hence the word "dedicated".....hehe ;)

I have a problem that when i try click join game on your server it just stand there and does nothing. I can't click any other servers and i have to go to main menu and then back to multiplayer to pick a new server.

That said i live in Norway so it might be something to do with that. But the Ping isn't all that bad though. 190 from the browser.

Hmmm.....guess we might have to wait for the update later today. The console is showing players in the server but if you can't at least join then the server may have crashed. I'll try restarting it.

If you're gonna get rid of overtime, you should probably extend the match time to 20 or 25

15 minute matches with no overtime just feel like they get cut short when the game ends

Yeah, i played on a server with no overtime this morning.. it was weird.

As much as I dislike overtime, it's a bit disconcerting to have the game just suddenly end. Some kind of epic countdown would be nice

The game ends too abruptly without Overtime.

    thanks for the feedback guys....

The next time I see the server empty I'll re-enable OT (how does 1 minute of overtime sound) and set the match time to 20 minutes?

Keep the feedback coming....it is appreciated.

    thanks,

I always figured more OT was better. I like to see who gets the moneyball down first, rather than who can push at the last minute... you know?

Example, each team has exactly the same health on moneyball. 20 seconds left
Buy juice, rush in... and guess what? you won!

5 minutes gives PLENTY of time to plan your "Take over the Moneyball" strat. :)

I agree, which is why I have "juice-buying" set to OFF. I've only played one PC match of this game (I first got it on the 360) so I don't know much about the PC version. I've just set up some things that I think would work but I'm always open to suggestions. :)

keep em coming....and I'll keep tweaking the server....

Ok... Without juice buying even. It doesn't take much to grab juice by playing it safe and just farming bots or healing bots or w/e you gotta do to grab juice.

Re: [test] dedicated server "the Monk's [dedicated server]"

I just joined in on a round in my server and I think personally I like the "no OT" setting because it means people are more focused on "pushing the lanes" during the game. In games where OT is enabled (at least on the 360 version) I found that everyone waits for OT and then "juice-rushes" to end the game. I don't want the team that performs a "juice-rush" better to be the winner.......I think the team that played more cohesively during the entire match should win. Of course that's just my own opinion and I'm happy to change the settings on the server to match the majority sentiment.

I don't disagree, but I think it ends too abruptly with overtime too. It suddenly transforms from a team-based game to a free-for-all juice race. First one or two people to juice into the enemy base win most of the time. That's not fun when a whole team makes a concerted effort for regulation, can't quite take down the moneyball, and then loses to one lucky juiced assassin. Not cool at all.

I do wish there was a countdown, too. Part of the reason the ending is abrupt in regulation is because nobody realizes it's coming, unless they're looking at the clock in their base.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

That said, as I've already stated I'll be happy to change settings on my server to what the community wants. I haven't been able to down the server to add OT or lengthen match-time because I think the server has been almost full since I put it up. More feedback please.... :) Maybe I don't need to make any changes afterall? hehe

Played on your server and it ran great. However, having no custom classes sucks. :(
