What is the best lineup class-wise?

    My ideal team consists of the following:
    Two Heavy Pushers, One Base Builder, Two All-Around, One Spot Removal

    Which comes out to be
    Tank/Gunner
    Tank/Gunner
    Assault
    Assault
    Support
    Sniper/Assassin

    I haven't played any serious tournaments nor any super competitive games, so I'm not claiming that is the best setup. Just what seems right for me.

    Best is probably 2 assaults, then one each of sniper, gunner, tank, and assassin.

    I think 2 snipers, 2 tanks, and 2 assaults could work with proper team work (snipers using ice traps to stop assassins in the bot lanes, 4 classes with long range pushing capabilities, tons of cc, and double flak + tanks to wreck any turrets without juice.).

    One of each is also possible, but the gunner is pretty expendable other than the mortar, and map control > turrets so I'd not run a support except to hack a shave ice and juice shotgun the moneyball. Firebases are pretty routine to deal with in any sort of mid-high level game, you'll never have reason to hack any enemy turret, and the sniper can one shot 5 of the 6 classes that are overhealed. He brings some stuff to the table, but a second tank/assault/sniper will do way more than 99% of the best supports IMO.

    There are of course very talented players that make any class viable at top level play. Support and gunner just are so much more difficult to justify on a regular basis than the other 4 classes.

    Yeah, Support really isn't necessary. Firebases may be threats in random pubs to players, they're really a non-issue. You may as well be playing 5v4/6v5


    5v5 = Assault/Tank/Assassin/Sniper and either an Assault/Gunner
    6v6 = Assault/Tank/Assassin/Sniper and either Assault/Gunner, Gunner/Tank, Assault/Tank.

    Its interesting that so many people think Supports are unnecessary. Too many supports and yes, your team gets significantly weaker. BUT, I think the following skills are so mandatory and unique that one Support is invaluable:

    - Overheal Pushers
    - Hack Turrets
    - Protect/Heal Turrets
    - Airstrike areas to remove enemies or kill turrets
    - Protect rear guard with firebases
    - Juice Build from safety and therefore rush more often

    I am curious as to why you guys think the above isn't reason enough to have one support?


    edit: NVM, just read Hudson's post fully, I think he pre-addressed all my points.

    More speed, less armor. Two teams of nothing but Assassins running speed endorsements sounds like a lot of fun to me :D

    I'm hoping that the support is kinda like Eve from LoL. For the uninitiated, eve was a character with lack luster skills that was completely out classed by every other hero/pro in the game, to the point where people would instantly quit the game if a team mate picked her. The devs promised she would be reworked.

    One day, forumgoers started noticing that one of the top 10 ranked players in the World played eve, and Tracked down a live stream of this player. This player played eve in such a unique way that completely hard countered an entire genere of pros/heroes. She went from rank 60 of 60 to the top 10 in the meta game very quickly once the playstyle caught on. She was not ever reworked, people just figured out how to play her.

    I'm hoping that most of us are just playing the support incorrectly, but I doubt it.

    I would think that 1 or 2 supports with any combination to fill out the other 4 spots. With 2 supports constantly building/upgrading/hacking turrets plus 2 firebases your base would be nearly impenetrable by bots and solo juice rushes. The problem would be being possibly 2 people down on your offensive push depending how the other team is set up. Offense is flashy but defense wins championships.

    if you have people who know their class then you have no weakness since the others can make up for it...
