    Hi all

I've read the Economy System thread but I'm still not sure whether metal is a limited resource or not. Is it? In recent games I've played (vs. AI; still trying to learn the basics), at some point my metal income drops to zero which makes me think that either I've mined it all out or there's a bug causing this. I'm just not sure which(?)

My other question is, can you build an extractor on underwater metal sites? I've tried everything I can think of but haven't been able to resolve this. Is it possible, or is this something that still needs to be implemented?

    TIA :)

    1. Metal does not run out. If it reads 0, it's either a bug or you've had all your extractors blown up :D Or are you certain you're not reading the 'net' figure by accident?

    2. If you build a naval factory, and then a naval fabricator, they can build floating metal extractors as a unique building for underwater deposits.

    Hope that helps :)

Metal is a limited resource - there are only a certain amount of mex on a planet (They can't be depleted though). Power meanwhile is infinite.

Are you sure your income completely drops to 0? The commander will always provide some income. Also note that stalling power currently reduces your metal income (Don't ever stall power!!). If your income does actually drop to 0 then search for/make a bug report:

    Hi Stoneberg.

Sounds to me like your stalling by wanting to build more then you can supply, most newbies I seen do this.

Basic setup is, use your commander to make 1 energy, then 4 to 5 Metal. Bot Factory.
Then use your commander to make another 2 Energy, 1 Energy & 1 Metal Collector.

(At this point, your factory will produce any amount for ever unless you build several things at once.)

Have the factory, make Con Bots, say 30, as they come out, have a group of 3 out making metal collectors.
Have another 3 helping the commander, Make hime mak another 20 Energy.

(Hold Shift while placing a energy collector and keep placing them, it makes a cue. Also as the con bot comes out, hit I, the mouse pointer turns blue, this assigns the worker to another already on a job, if the worker is cued up, it will continue to help. Assign a group to 1, works the same with Offensive vehicles.)

After 10 mins you should have 20 energy and around 20 Metal.
As con bots come out, use them to make vehicle factories and so on, grow as big as quick as possible.
Economy is No.1 in this and with out it, you can stall everything trying to build.

Do a forum search for quadratech by judicatorofgenicide

Watch his video, he does a great job of showing a base setup that can be changed anyway you want.

As for the water, the commander cannot build water extractors, build a naval yard, then build a sub or con ship and use that to build water based stuff and GL...

Thanks very much for the replies folks!
I think I may have hit a bug. I generally put extractors on all the metal sites I can find and build a ton of Energy. At a certain point in the game I simply can't build anything more; the 'metal available' meter drops to 0 and never replenishes. If it occurs again, I'll make a report using the link provided by ZaphodX.

Although unrelated, is it possible to put a factory on infinite build? Or is that something for the future?

That's a future thing that will almost certainly happen.

Having a negative power overall (more used than generated) and 0 power in storage.
