it would be awesome if there were menus that could be shown/hidden with hotkeys that list all your units and buildings. once multiple planets are implemented maybe each planet could get its own list and there could be a master list. when a unit/buildings takes damage it seperates from its list and a small graphic shows its taking damage. when you click on that unit you center onto it. i envision this being very useful when dealing with logisitics over multiple theaters. basically startcraft 2 replay screen lists in game
my only objection would be, they would have to put in some sort of antispam filters, cause if a large mex area gets attacked many of them will get hit spamming you with damage reports
There's no way this would be possible on the scale some games are expected to go. Armies made of hundreds of units?? Maybe if it only applied to certain units - scouts, key units, or maybe even units you can specify you want watched - and the same with buildings.
Yep, Sins of a Solar Empire had a shortcut interface of all the units on each planet, in a similar way. I didn't love the way they did it, but the idea was good. Having the items in the list flash red if they are being attacked would be very handy, then you could mouseover to see a 'picture in picture' of the item and it's surrounds, and double click to jump to that location. Ooooh, that would be nifty. And it would have to show only buildings, or high level groups - eg 50x leveller, 32x mex and that label flashes if something starts hitting them.
Came in here to post this same idea of PIP interactive alerts. Glad I'm not the only who thought of it and I think the discussion is already going the right way. Because of the scale it would have to happen only on key units and selectable groups of units. Also on specific events, like a nuke impact, unit cannon target or a detected enemy orbital presence on a planet you have full control over. You'd click the PIP and get sent straight to that action.
