    Hello Everyone,

I'd like to start off by introducing myself. I love strategy games and I have pretty much played all of them since Total Annihilation. The latest game that I play is Supreme Commander. Furthermore, I noticed Planetary Annihilation on Steam a couple of days back and it got me interested as it reminded me of TA. First off, I'd like to say that this game looks BAD A**!!! I love the looks of it and the gameplay. Naturally I want this game to succeed as much as possible and for it to have a large active community. :D :D

Now for my question that I have, and I hope the developers can tell me something. I already looked up the issue about multi-core support on the forums and I saw that the game will be supported by a client-server. From my understanding this will take care of the simulation aspect of the game. Now, is this game engine also going to be optimized for quad-core and octa-core CPU's on the PC that it will be played on? I have an I7-920 @ 4.0GHz and I have the hardest time playing with AI's on large maps because of the limitations imposed on multi-core support. As most of you know it only runs two threads and the AI was not coded very efficiently causing the simulation speed to drop considerably in the late game. I would like to know that if I could play a game with say, 8 AI's and about 4000+++ units, will it use all my available cores to its fullest capabilities instead of just one or two??? Thank's for taking the time to read this.

P.S. I like this forum. I have to say that this is one of the most supportive community I have seen in a while.

Given that in order to do offline games what you essentially do is host the server on your computer at the same time as the client I do imagine they want to make the game use as many cores as possible primarily as future proofing on top of just being plain more common now compared to even 3 years ago.

Trying to gauge performan ce by number of AIs/Units won't work this early, the AI is far from done and the engine in general has a lot of Optimization work ahead of it.

I'm assuming you're talking about SupCom here? PA is a totally different engine.

Oh yes sorry about that. I forgot to specify, I do mean SupCom. I also realize that PA is a different engine but I am just worried about it ending up optimized similar to SupCom. I'd hate to see this game go the same route. Also, I have not played this game yet so I would not know how it performs.

Don't forget that SupCom was out in 2007 before having more than 2 cores was very common, even nowadays with my i7-2600k I can go for 45 minutes or now and still be in a positive Sim speed, depending on the circumstances, The AI is pretty much the bigger culprit, but using things like Sorian's AI mods and Cheating options you can really optimize the number of AIs you need to use to makes things run better for longer.
