    I must say that I really loved the cartoonish graphic of the kickstarter trailer.

    But watching recent youtube gameplay videos it seems that the graphic is much more serious than the trailer.

    For example this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O-zosIa4K4
    Maybe the gray planet doesn't help here, but it seems to be a little too serious.

    Thoughts?

    Currently Uber doesn't work on graphics aesthetics much. They also don't work on post processing and color correction yet, but all assets you seen in trailer you it's same assets you might see in game.

    But you might be interesting to check this mod screenshots:

    Okay I'm going to nip this one in the butt before it becomes headache inducing, and this time I'm using a picture;

    [IMG]

    Only one of those is a 'Cartoon style', I shouldn't have to explain which one I hope.

    So, to clarify...

    Only one of these is a "carton style".

    One might also be a "cartoon style", I'm not really sure.

    I probably won't be able to explain which is which.

    If this isn't cartoonish/simplistic what is it then? I don't like the actual graphics style. It is very much like in the original trailer and I feared it would be. Especially the naval units look like babies' bath tub toys. SupCom looked much, much cooler. I am only one of a few who perceive it like this, it seems. I feel like I have wasted my money on this. I know, this is only alpha, so gameplay quality and detail level will improve. It's just very hard for me to imagine something emerging from this which is to my liking. And then, again, I guess, most of the supporting community like it the way it is going. Sad for me. Good thing is, I can still play SupCom FA...

    Post-Proc. adds a lot to the colour, mood, and style.

    I think some people here are being biased too much by what they don't see.

    Personally, I like the Sup1/FA style an awful bloody lot. Probably more than I like PA's. I like the first SupCom style so much so that my favourite screenshot is;

    [IMG]

    No.

    Wait.

    That's not what Sup1/FA looked like.

    That's been photoshopped. It's had a bunch of post-processing done to it - and it made it look fantastic.

    Based more off of TA. SC went one direction, ended up one place, and this game is backtracking to TA and going a different direction.

    It's concept design is similar to TA. The real solid colors and sharp shapes simply derive from the idea that units need to be highly recognizable at different sizes. Clutter on the object, like textures, small meshes representing hatches and buttons and pipes, and multiple colors to mimic realistic looking steel and paneling, all take away from vision while adding work to make. Just to most of the time be toned down by mods or by lowering graphics for better fps.

    Generally, more people liked Red Alert 2 more than C&C Generals.

    That's a render lol. Not even a photoshop, someone extracted the Monkeylord's model and texture and then rendered it in 3dsmax or something. You can tell by the reflections.

    I was thoroughly unimpressed by SupCom's art style. If there was more-- Actually, you know, I'm not going to bring that up. There were 4 armies that were similar in many ways, I'll leave it at that.

    Case and point.

    It looks different because a different rendering path was used.

    The Kickstarter and the current alpha look different for the exact same reason. Give it time. Keep reminding Uber that the job's not done yet with respect to the graphics.

    Is there anything necessarily wrong with cartoonish graphics anyway? They didn't seem to prevent games like Dungeon Defenders, Mark of the Ninja, Bastion, Binding of Issac, Terraria, Monaco, and Torchlight 1&2 from being fun.

    That being said I do look forward to PA getting its graphics polished as time goes on.

    No, of course not but just because it's not the "Ultra Realism" of COD doesn't mean it's Cartoony.

    Re: Cartonish graphic like kickstarter trailer?

    Supcom had a pretty bland generic aesthetic style. Colourful stylised visuals are better in the long run because they age far better and provide more clarity. Look at TF2 as an example - it was released at the same time as HL2:Ep2. Out of those two games in the same engine, TF2 has done much better to withstand the test of time because it doesn't rely on realistic textures that will end up looking really lowres and grainy in time.
