I think an interesting main menu addition (background) would be to have earth as a planet in the background, and have some sort of marker to show the location of people who are online. I. E. For a single person in new York online there could be a lone scout, or for 10+ people a small base, etc.

It was just a rotating sphere, no user locations or earth texture or anything like that. But what you said is a cool idea! I might consider making something like this as I'm looking for a new idea for my next mod The only thing is I think I'll only be able to do server locations. Pretty sure the server doesn't give any information about user locations, other than the server they are connected to.
You could add random arcs going between servers, random sprites and a variable intensity glow based on how many people are playing on a specific server. It would make things look flashy. It would also be a great way to select a server, instead of a drop down menu.
