Just though it would be cool to have Nvidia Phys X technology in PA, and was wondering what you guys though of it. Also keep up the hard work, amazing game so far.
All simulations in PA done on servers, and servers don't have videocards, so there is no point to use any GPU-accelerated physics middleware. Also PhysX it's proprietary tech of Nvidia which only have hardware acceleration on Nvidia GPU, so no way tech like this can be used in any RTS game.
It could be used for Clientside particle effects and that's about it. Would make a pretty cool mod, an interface between PA'S sprites and PhysX's physics libraries.
Well tbh Phys X may work on amd cards soon, just not as well as on Nvidia cards. Since Nvidia has already said that Phys X will work on the next gen consoles, that are 100% AMD hardware.
Nvidia was forced to support hardware acceleration on consoles otherwise PhysX just completely lose it's market, but situation on PC are different. PhysX it's vendor lock-in technology which help them to keep GPU market, it's will never have proper support of AMD/Intel video, if some contingencies don't force them to do so.
Special PhysX DLC for Nvidia users, $19.99 only. PS: I have nothing against in-game physics in general, but there is also other OpenCL-based solutions which support hardware acceleration on all platforms. And I don't think it's good practice when everybody pay for Nvidia-only crap.
NOO!!! I am mad as hell.. Bought the Humble Bundle package which contains Sacred 2 Gold Edition. Seems it want to have PhysX installed on my system while I do not have a nVidia product. Optimizations favoring a product is bad in my book.. Specialy if it is for marketing!
I agree 100% if a Phy X option is put into the game there needs to be an AMD option as well. But i also feel like advanced physics effects would add so much for stuff like planets hitting each other.
