I recently saw a vid of some aimbot advert for SMNC, and while the guy was getting kills he was still doing **** because he had 0 bots xD
I've been playing FPSs on PC exclusively since 1995, and I have experienced only a handful of hackers myself. Of course, I don't play the games that focus on few-hit kill weapons, like CS, CoD, and any other "realistic" games, where I think this issue would probably be most common. However, for the most part, the communities tend to police themselves quite well, especially if there are dedicated servers available. And as people have already pointed out, you'll still find hackers on consoles, and in those cases, there's less you can do to stop it. (Though the next generation of online services for console may provide a better infrastructure for dealing with abuse.) Also be aware that you'll have to deal with other issues with console FPSs. For example, remember when MS decided to shut down the official servers for Halo 2 on the original XBox, despite there being plenty of people who still played the game regularly? Modern consoles don't really concern themselves with preserving gaming legacy nearly as much as PC gaming does. thebigpill, grimbar, and I frequently play FPSs that are over a decade old, and yet still have an active community. In fact, I just popped in to play some Descent II multiplayer last week. (Descent II was released in 1996.) Not all modern games will maintain that longevity, but there's a better chance of seeing it on PC than console.
Related to that, I played like 2 games of Halo 2 on my 360 and it warranted as enough to give me 3 months Gold for free
I've encountered ~4 hackers in SMNC, at least 15 in TF2, and 3 on ps3 dark souls, although apparently the xbox version has a lot more.
This. Unless the ps4 is defunct and the box doesn't launch well. In which case i won't play shooters anymore and will stick to pc rts and sandbox.
What games do you play? Soldier Front? Like others here, I've encountered two or three hackers ever in PC gaming. Anecdotal, sure, but 99.5% of "hackers" really are actually just that good. Example 1 Example 2 I've got quite a number of hackusations under my belt across a few games - it's the ultimate compliment a gamer can give, especially if they're so flustered that they can't spell right. Do what you want, but rest assured that you're probably wrong. The most hackers I've ever encountered were all in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron...on the PSP..... bonus video I remember back in the BF3 beta there was a guy instakilling people with his 9mm pistol literally from across the map (one base to the other) through the map terrain. That's hacking.
First link was private :O But I have one thing to say about that BF3 vid: TEAMWORK IS OP But yeah, hackusations are usually find and harmless until you give people access to banning xD
