This idea is almost too obvious.

The concept of a death star is simple, just like you mentioned: it takes a very long time to build, but it essentially is a game ender.

The planet itself is a normal planet, that you can land and fight on. When complete, it can move and shoot a laser to blow up other planets. However, there isn't just the cost of building the planet up - there's a tremendous energy cost to charge the laser.

The gimmick here is that only in really tense games that are near stalemates would this thing get built. Once it's built, the other players have no hope.

HOWEVER! Petty turf wars over front lines will no longer matter because the Death Star player will focus all their resources on moving and firing the Death Star. Likewise, the other player will have no choice but to try and stop the Death Star. All their resources will go to star fighters (which I think should exist as Tier 3 air units and hugely expensive, i.e.: in a solar system match the endgame might see about 10-20 of these built total).

The star fighters, in concert with other units, have to land on the Death Star, penetrate defenses, and blow up fixed 'weak points'. This will blow up the Death Star, which will simultaneously blow up all the energy mines currently 'linked' to the charging of the laser. So, the closer to the laser's firing, the more energy mines destroyed.

The appeal of this sort of mechanic is that the focus of gameplay in a long drawn out solar system match narrows from many planets to a single last stand game of chicken.

With that in mind, I concur, however cheesy it seems, with the sentiment of others here: there should be a shield generator. The Death Star gets captured for exclusive use when the shield generator is built. It's a single point of defense, so it will be easier to defend the Death Star while it's being built then once it's complete.

In any event, I see both a Death Star, and any star ships beyond the lone 'star fighter', to be good material for DLC. We don't want to pack everything into the initial experience.

this will be an excellent game to play, the death star or what ever it will be called will be great, shelds is a good idea an i think you should look into this, this will also make the game more intresting, knocking out the shelds generator and then destroying the planet, we should gather some ideas of a suitable name. anyone got any suggestions? :D

we should also introduce fleet ships that can be in space and land on the panet, this would also be good to use and destroy other ships and even an attempt to knock out the death star, im refurring to star wars again ships like the star distroyer big ships that sort of things little ships are just as important.

does anyone agree, we also need to focus on what we would put on the planet as well they are just as imporant, theres a lot to think about guys :D :D
