That means it's probably not a problem with shlwapi.dll directly, but one of its dependencies. Just checked, and double clicking the file in question does indeed bring up the list of dependencies. That's probably your best lead at this point.
Hi guys! I have exactely the same problem until 49595 (before it was working but I may miss a patch) I'm curently on a DELL vostro 3700, Windows 7, 64bits, Nvidia 330M + chipset intel I think the problem is the game don't recognize my Videocard Nvidia anymore : it's not an Optimus System it's the DELL one and I can't update my drivers : I have to wait until DELL give me some because Nvidia one don't install. So for me it's one of these 2 problems : 1) My drivers are too old :'( 2) PA don't recognize my Nvidia correctely any more (My logs file stop after the "non Steam" version and my friend has description of his video card just after. Dependency walker give me the same result of the previous screen shoot. I tried with my friend's installation's folder and it crash at the launch :s ) PS : Sorry for my english
Should in dependency walker should my PA.exe, MSVCP100.dll and MSVCR100.dll all be showing as 32bit? Even with most recent patch I am still unable to run pa.exe (from launcher even) and this used to work when I first fired the game up pre June 7th
Try downloading and install VCRedist. It seems they are using VS 2010. So it is most likely any or both of these files you'll need: VC 2010 SP1 x86: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=8328 VC 2010 SP1 x64: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=13523 Btw, manually copying these files is a bad idea, as Microsoft releases different versions of them. That can lead to very strange issues if you do.
also get this crash every time I hit play on the launcher, running the 32 bit version, just really looking for a solution or any help and apologies if its because my computers too sh*t.. cheers
Seems you have a very old integrated Intel GPU. But you can try this driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail ... pe=Drivers It is the last version of the driver for your GPU as it is discontinued. I hope it helps. Please note that the driver I have linked to is for Vista 32bit. So make sure it is the correct driver for your system before installing it.
No just the diagnosis sort of window telling me that pa.exe has stopped working and that windows can't find a solution to the problem.
I am having a very similar problem. My graphics driver stops responding every so often and recovers. I ran PA.exe through that dependency program and got this: It appears under the CPU column there is a conflict. Is there anyone who may be willing to assist me with his? Thanks a bunch in advance. I am very close to scrapping playing at all its starting to take the enjoyment out when FPS is like 2p/s. -Greg EDIT: I applied the aforementioned fix to C++ and it appears the problem has been repaired I am very happy. Thank you!
This is just a small note in case you have trouble with freezing and recovering GPU. If this happens, it is most likely because something is consuming so much time and resources that the card becomes unresponsive. When that happens, a timeout will be triggered in the driver that will attempt to recover the GPU as it believes it crashed (or hung). You can turn this flag off, but doing so can cause the driver to hang indefinitely next time there is an issue (aka no recover) which means you have to reboot your computer. However, if you feel adventurous and would like 'to try' then you can change it here: Open 'Regedit'. Navigate to this location: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers" Add a 'DWORD' named 'TdrLevel' and set the value to 0. You must reboot for changes to this level of registry alterations to be picked up. NOTE: To undo this, simply remove the key, and reboot again. It might help you, but I'll offer no promises
Thanks for the recommendation, however I have VS2010 running on my machine, but I tired the redists above and it still doesn't work gives me the message "PA.exe has stopped working" Any other ideas?
I'll admit I have not read through the over 100 other threads since this one was last updated. But I was kinda hoping someone had more solid information to offer. Thanks,
I helped to fix "stopped working" for about 10-12 people and I think it's always windows problem. One of problems is: for some reason Windows 7/8 already got directx DLL's, but they are wrong version and wrong ABI, so game is failed to init. And Steam and DX web installer can't fix it because files is already found, but they are different. Fix is explained here: viewtopic.php?p=756035#p756035
Are you referring to the fix of applying the new dx9 and dx9 sdk? If so I have applied both of those installers and I am still seeing the same failure. Does someone who had this problem have a list of the dx file versions I should be seeing when I do DxDiag? Thanks,
You can't just apply it, first you need to remove all D3D9* DLLs from system32 and SysWOW64 and only then install June 2010 redist. DXdiag doesn't contain information about DLLs versions.
Hey I have tried removing the d3dx9*.dll files from system32 and syswow64, I was able to remove them, but when i tried to remove the d3d9.dll i got access denied, like the file is in use by the system. but I tried to do a reinstall anyways with the june 2010 redist and get the same failure in launching PA.exe. Below is my d3dx9 and d3d9 dll dates Directory of C:\Windows\System32 02/05/2005 07:45 PM 3,544,272 d3dx9_24.dll 03/18/2005 05:19 PM 3,823,312 d3dx9_25.dll 05/26/2005 03:34 PM 3,767,504 d3dx9_26.dll 07/22/2005 07:59 PM 3,807,440 d3dx9_27.dll 12/05/2005 06:09 PM 3,815,120 d3dx9_28.dll 02/03/2006 08:43 AM 3,830,992 d3dx9_29.dll 03/31/2006 12:41 PM 3,927,248 d3dx9_30.dll 09/28/2006 04:05 PM 3,977,496 d3dx9_31.dll 11/29/2006 01:06 PM 4,398,360 d3dx9_32.dll 03/12/2007 04:42 PM 4,494,184 d3dx9_33.dll 05/16/2007 04:45 PM 4,496,232 d3dx9_34.dll 07/19/2007 06:14 PM 5,073,256 d3dx9_35.dll 10/12/2007 03:14 PM 5,081,608 d3dx9_36.dll 03/05/2008 03:56 PM 4,910,088 D3DX9_37.dll 05/30/2008 02:11 PM 4,991,496 D3DX9_38.dll 07/10/2008 11:00 AM 4,992,520 D3DX9_39.dll 10/15/2008 06:22 AM 5,631,312 D3DX9_40.dll 03/09/2009 03:27 PM 5,425,496 D3DX9_41.dll 09/04/2009 05:29 PM 2,475,352 D3DX9_42.dll 05/26/2010 11:41 AM 2,401,112 D3DX9_43.dll 20 File(s) 84,864,400 bytes Directory of C:\Windows\SysWOW64 02/05/2005 08:45 PM 2,222,800 d3dx9_24.dll 03/18/2005 05:19 PM 2,337,488 d3dx9_25.dll 05/26/2005 03:34 PM 2,297,552 d3dx9_26.dll 07/22/2005 07:59 PM 2,319,568 d3dx9_27.dll 12/05/2005 06:09 PM 2,323,664 d3dx9_28.dll 02/03/2006 08:43 AM 2,332,368 d3dx9_29.dll 03/31/2006 12:40 PM 2,388,176 d3dx9_30.dll 09/28/2006 04:05 PM 2,414,360 d3dx9_31.dll 11/29/2006 01:06 PM 3,426,072 d3dx9_32.dll 03/12/2007 04:42 PM 3,495,784 d3dx9_33.dll 05/16/2007 04:45 PM 3,497,832 d3dx9_34.dll 07/19/2007 06:14 PM 3,727,720 d3dx9_35.dll 10/12/2007 03:14 PM 3,734,536 d3dx9_36.dll 03/05/2008 03:56 PM 3,786,760 D3DX9_37.dll 05/30/2008 02:11 PM 3,850,760 D3DX9_38.dll 07/10/2008 11:00 AM 3,851,784 D3DX9_39.dll 10/15/2008 06:22 AM 4,379,984 D3DX9_40.dll 03/09/2009 03:27 PM 4,178,264 D3DX9_41.dll 09/04/2009 05:29 PM 1,892,184 D3DX9_42.dll 05/26/2010 11:41 AM 1,998,168 D3DX9_43.dll Directory of C:\Windows\System32 11/20/2010 08:24 PM 2,067,456 d3d9.dll 1 File(s) 2,067,456 bytes Directory of C:\Windows\SysWOW64 11/20/2010 08:24 PM 1,828,352 d3d9.dll 1 File(s) 1,828,352 bytes The d3d9.dll being dated nov 2010 makes me think that they should be newer than the ones in the June 2010 redist. I'm at a loss at this point
June 2010 redist doesn't contain d3d9.dll at all, so I think it's not important. One question: viewtopic.php?p=747728#p747728 Is DxDiag posted here it's from computer you got problems currently? Have you updated drivers? I re-checked DxDiag info and found that you have Nvidia Optimus laptop. Are you sure you run PA on Nvidia GPU (by default apps run on Intel iGPU)? PS: I just wonder, don't you tried to make clean Windows reinstall?
Well the odd thing is when PA Alpha first came out, i fired it right up and played for a few hours, then RL got me busy and wasn't able to play for a couple of weeks, I finally got to fire it back up, it patched to latest at that time, and ever since then I've not been able to play. Yup that DXDiag is from the very problematic machine. To be perfectly honest I am not sure which GPU it is trying to use. And I'm not sure how to force it to use the Nvidia GPU. And to quote another user, Dell hasn't put out "recent" updates since 2010 or something like that, so I have had to make the current nvidia drivers recognize my card. Which has worked for every other game I play, so I'm not sure what I need to change. Thanks for all your help
It's will be useful if you upload new DxDiag, so I can see if you change something in your software. Check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzGugS05wo0 Please answer other questions. I really want to help you, but it's quite hard without information. Have you installed latest drivers already? Here is driver for integrated card: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail ... ldID=22521 And you need to get latest nvidia drivers yourself, because currently nvidia.com not working for me.
