Now I understand the enormous amount of work required to get something like this going and I am NOT complaining but I am curious as to when we can expect to see this run on 32-bit?

When it's ready - they don't like to put down deadlines as it only causes more tension when they miss them.

Also since there stance on Win XP is pretty much no, I wouldn't be surprised if this slipped by some way too. Having said that, it might well be next, after mac & Linux support.

Short answer, how long is a piece of string? Maybe now is the time to upgrade to a 64bit OS.

    Not without a re-install.
If you have the proper disks, and enough space on your hard drive,
you can play with a partition manager (NOT the Windows one!!!),
make enough space for a decent setup (I'd say AT LEAST 20GB),
then do an install using the 64-bit disks.

People here reckon just about everybody is on 64-bit now, but
they are wrong. Many people bought PCs pre-installed with 32-bit,
and have since installed too many programmes to want to risk
losing access to programmes they currently use (potential missing
    disks etc).

The best way probably, is to buy a new hard drive (quite cheap now),
do a new 64-bit install, and multiboot between the two setups as and
    when required.

I suspect that the reason we dont see a 32bit client right now is the memory usage. A 32bit program is allowed 1-2GB of memory when being run on a 32bit OS while it can have 4GB on 64bit OS running a 32bit program. This is because the 32bit OS rations the memory much more extensive than the 64Bit OS which can have a lot more memory to work with.

But the game is using a lot more than 1-2GB of memory. I believe that they are trying to optimize it so that they can bring the memory usage down to acceptable levels for the 32bit OS.

I'd be willing to bet this will never run properly in 32bit mode. As this is one of the very first 64bit rts games the idea is to make it on a vast scale hence 32 bit computers will struggle because they will hit the ram memory wall of a couple gig per program. There are work arounds to get more ram addressed per program but you cant go higher than four.

If you had the money to buy a new motherboard when you go to put the win disk in you would probably find that xp is not supported. I'm pretty sure 8 gig dimms aren't supported by xp, and I can't think of a better way of illustrating my point.Ultimately this game will want a computer that is going to exist in 5 years time or more, but you'll need a computer to run it as well as you can at the moment. Thats exactly what happened with supcom(even though supcom doesn't max out larger computers it still runs better on them)

Sorry to keep on but if your running an offical copy of xp you will find that the driver support and update are being stopped for xp soon. Microsoft say that the operating system is no longer safe.

Yeah take the hit and upgrade to to win7/8 64bit - the only question is, what version of windows you've bought. Was it a pre-install or a retail copy? I bought Win7 when it came out and it came with 2 discs - a 32bit install disc & a 64bit. If it's pre-installed on the OS it might mean you'll have to buy a copy of the 64bit version. All depends on your windows license.

I doubt that matters to a person who has been running on a 32-bit OS for so long. It's unlikely that he has more than 4, and 6 is the current standard, with 8 being recommended. 16gig will be fine for him

Wut where did the "only 16gb of ram" notion come from.. i have 24gb of ripjaw gaming ram and it reads and see's all 24gb.. ive only managed to get it up to 18gb used though i cant find enough resource hog programs to do it =[

    Edit - Im on Windows 7 64bit.

Home Premium has a hard limit on useable ram. Microsoft did that on purpose.
