Having said that, I've been playing the open beta of Path of Exile with friends, and recently caved and purchased one of their supporter packs. For a free game. Using actual monies.

Since I'm far more passionate about PA than some Diablo clone, I have a horrible suspicion I'll be perfectly capable of throwing more money at Uber for the most capricious of reasons. Up to and including the ability to add jaunty top hats or shiny sword canes to a commander model... :roll:

I fully expect Uber to release custom commanders after launch. Which I will of course be more than happy to buy.

Purely cosmetic. They can make you look suave or dapper.

Plus some of them are rare and can be worth a bit of money.

It's for idiots like me to waste money on. Don't think I'd actually pay just for a hat, but I would pay to add a commander of my own design (with default stats) to the game as a standard unit.

I didn't have $1000 spare during the kickstarter, otherwise I would already have a custom commander in the works. I do however have the time and inclination to design my own; well, will have once I get enough info out of the mod forum on how to make one, and have it not suck too badly

While I can make a custom client mod where I can see my terrible awesomelessness at work on the battlefield without needing to pay a cent, for any other players to be able to laugh at my handiwork it would need to be a supported unit, which would mean Uber would need to vet it and then do the work to add it to the game. Which costs them time and resource to do, hence will have a cost associated with it.

What I am hoping is that by letting us players do the actual design and debug work, the cost associated with getting the commander vetted and added will be low enough that I won't agonise about spending the cash.

All I need to do now is learn how to 3D model and design meshes and bones, and make textures that'll apply properly to the model. Should be easy, right? :lol:

probably a compensation mechanism, If you think you can't wear a hat in real life and get away with it, then you need a hat for your commander.
