Ok, Linux on Steam is broken because you can't login to steam inside the client. This is because there is no steam 64-bit version for linux. We are currently working on a workaround for this issue that will allow linking of your steam account. I don't have an ETA on it yet. If you have access to a windows box you can work around like this: - login to the windows version of the game and link your steam account - delete steam.txt from the steam version of the game - run it and login using UberNet. As a general note linux is the furthest behind version and we have large number of issues to work through before it's really playable.
Thanks for the update! If there's anything we can do to help just let us know, the login screen looks great though
I think it's okay if add geeky details for Linux users. I think it's stop people to asking this Steam client related questions. Garat answer this question before: viewtopic.php?p=727185#p727185 For Linux users: If you buy/run game though Steam PA need to use Steamworks API once to link your Steam account to UberNet account. To use Steamworks API Uber need to link Steamworks SDK to the PA executable. PA executable is 64-bit only at moment, but there is no Steamworks SDK for Linux x86_64 So actually Uber don't need any special x86_64 Steam client (Windows client is 32-bit only too), but they need x86_64 version of SDK
but (currently) you have to use steam to get PA for linux, at least I haven't seen any other link? another question since I avoided steam until now in context of PA, if you link the PA to steam can you still use the windows version without the steam client in the background?
Their launcher isn't finished yet, you need to wait a bit. But I think we can done our own launcher bit later.
I have no problem with waiting, just wondered if I missed anything, didn't follow all linux threads closely. the IGPU in my linux box probably won't be enough to do anything sensible either way.
That doesn't quite work I have booted my work laptop and launched PA from Win7 64bit It is saying "Your account is not authorised to play PA, Please enter your access code" which is no where to be found? even on the mykeys page since that shows STEAM key now
No, you need to start the STEAM version on Windows. The UberNet launcher will NOT link your accounts, only the Windows Steam version does currently, no other.
yup sorted, you need a windows setup (wine might work if you have managed to launch pa before) 1) convert your key to a STEAM key 1a) this will allow you to install PA for linux since it is only distributed by STEAM atm 2) boot windows & install PA 3) launch PA from STEAM to link Ubernet & STEAM accounts 4) Back to linux 5) cd ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Planetary Annihilation 6) ./PA # to launch PA 7) login should now work (be it slower than windows)
How do you make your Steam client download something? I just got empty folder. PS: Okay, installed without steam and it's working!
This. The UI on Linux is currently broken enough that it's not actually doing the right popups to actually get your accounts linked correctly. :/
https://uberent.com/user/linksteam Will let you do this on the web instead of in the client. You must login to steam using the login to steam link.
Just in time -- I was breaking out a decompiler on PALauncher in an attempt to get it working and downloading Planetary Annihilation so I could maybe get the game installed in WINE or the like.
