You think they stopped Elo? You didn't read the update then. They made your rating invisible to the public, it's now only used for matchmaking, the tier system is what is visible to the public, and your elo can move up and down independently of your tier and division, depending on exactly which games you win / lose over time.
Elo is different, you're talking about MMR. MMR is your hidden rating that determines who you're put with. Elo is gone.
Elo = MMR. The formula used to calculate your "Elo" in the old system is the same as the formula used to calculate your "MMR" in the new system, nothing has changed except the fact that players can't view this number.
Show me any proof that MMR is different from Elo, other than someone simply saying that it's different. Try hanging out in "playwithriot" sometime, newer rioters hang there to serve time playing games with the public, and we have occasional visits from big fellas like Acetaminophen, Pendragon, etc. What have we learned asking these fellas about the new changes? The rating system remains unchanged, the tier and division system was placed over it to hide frustrating or hard to understand aspects, so the public would stop whining about it.
"Maybe it's time the Internet adopted a "sarcasm" tag to alert readers to the use of irony in online conversation" Yeah, because something like that has never been used before /s
Okay. I feel like you're unaware of this, but recently, an elementary school was terrorized and shot up by a guy around this kid's age. Like...20 some odd children and teachers were killed, and it was HUGE national news and resparked the debate on gun control here in the States and how mental health connects to that and blah blah blah. Anyway, he was probably jailed because that situation is so fresh in people's minds, and the hostility and security and paranoia (ain't that American) is still there. Sure, some may see it as overreacting, but if he had carried it out, Riot would have a SHITSTORM on their hands.
I know about the school massacres and the political chitstorm they tend to brew up. We had 2 of them here in Finland a few years ago. The people who are making the calls should be competent enough not to let these events cloud their judgement. What's the point in having a justice system if it can't even distinguish the real threats from the phony ones.
Forums are different. The people ingame are pretty toxic too, just idiots. I haven't heard a clever insult yet. There's no voice chat, so that's nice, too.
People here are just mean-spirited. People in LoL are not only mean-spirited, but legitimately stupid and childish.
