I was wondering if there were any plans for an in-game ranking system, so that you could be paired up with players of approximately equal skill levels as yourself. I mean, unlike in other games like TF2, where you can jump in a game and leave if the other players are too easy or too hard, doing so in a PA match would be devastating to your team. I know that League of Legends has some sort of ranking system, though I don't know how it works.
I can't really remember any game with ranking system which looks at player skills for random matching which was any good for a game. SO i hope PA won't have anything like that, if you really afraid of playing with "special" teammates - just find couple friends who play PA, coordinate with them trough TeamSpeak or something, and you would never have such a problem.
well, the LoL ranking system seems to work petty well for my friends. And even if you do have some friends you can play PA with, what about when they don't want to play? And when you are playing, even if you are with a group of friends, you don't want to go up against another team that is miles ahead of you in skill and playtime.
Planetary Annihilation: LiveStream Feb. 8th, 2013 There will be a matchmaking service. What "skill rating" will be used, be it Glicko based or Elo based hasn't been 100% confirmed yet (I believe). Jon dodges the question of whether or not the Ranking system uses trueskill, but he does confirm A ranking system... of some kind
Skill levels: Yes Publicly viewable ranking system? I hope not. I find that rankings generally make a game less fun to me. Playing TF2 without a ranking system is great, I've been playing it for ages. CoD or BF however, that have one, were good at start but got very boring afterwards because the only real goal was to climb up the ranking. So I hope PA will use hidden skill levels/points to use in the matchmaking system.
I feel like a ranked lobby or whatnot should have a number of collected stats for the competitive players to observe.
I would like to see some kind of ladder/ranking system like in SC2 at least. The system should encourage competitiveness while at the same time pare you up with equally skilled players (occasionally better as you progress). But I trust Uber to come up with a solution for this
What SC2 does is pretty good. It has a few flaws, but they have put a LOT of work into investigating how to make the game enjoyable to play while at the same time offering some form of competition. So yeah, have a look at SC2, take the goods parts from it and everything is good.
