Has there been any mention from the devs how long games are going to take? I know you can have big maps and small maps and good and bad players but I mean an average 1v1 ladder match with small to medium sized maps. Any idea how long they are planning for us to sit down and play for in a single session? I have had games last only 4 mins in a 1v1 ladder game in supcom before and some even make it to an hour but as a general rule i would say they are around the 20 min mark, give or take, maybe closed to 15 if its a small map. If every time i sit down it is going to take an hour on average, working your way up the ladder is going to be a slow old process. If it staying about the same length as faf games then thats all good but with the talk of multiple planets and moons etc I wonder how long it's all going to take to reach an end. Also i am interested if they are going for an Elo type rating for ladder like faf does or if they are going to pull anything fancy out of the bag...
i agree, we have to trust the devs for now. I think they're looking to replace what was the lategame SCU/Experimental stage in SupCom with cool space stuff basically.
Game Length depends on a lot of factors; Balance, number of planets, size of map, strategies used and more. It's something we're all going to discover together during Beta. Mike
I agree with knight, we will just have to wait for at least late alpha to have an idea of how long games will be. I will, however, say that a small planet 1v1 probably won't be all that long, as defense doesn't seems to be a very viable option, as attacks could come from all sides. In 1v1 where the players would start on different planes however... that would take a while I also agree with the spinewires point that there seems to be a lot to the game that would make games long, but don't forget that there is only 2 tech levels and not 3 to progress through. From my personal experience tech level progressions can be a thing that just drags on and on, especially in higher level play where economy harassment is a factor
Completely dependent on map size, game mode, number of armies and number of players. For example a 1v1 on a small map would be pretty fast. A 4x4v4x4 in a big system .... well probably a while
And don't forget those 24 hour matches you mentioned . I'm looking forward to trying that out, though I wouldn't hold it against you if they don't make sense for PA and that particular sort of mode gets dropped.
