Does anyone know if space travel will be restricted to the rocket we saw in the kickstarter trailler and if not what other methods will be available? Also, I know there is not going to be space combat like spaceship to spaceship combat but does that completely rule out destroying a incoming rocket with enemy bots inside with a missle or something? Cheers
Not a great deal has been confirmed, save for what was in the KS video and Neutrino mentioning plans for a teleporter. Even less has been mentioned about intercepting those things. And if I were to speculate (like I am about to now), inclusion of anything like that would be a slippery slope into space combat. I foresee many people posting the following;
Uber hasn't really confirmed anything because they just haven't gotten to that stage of development yet. Neutrino understands the core Land/Air/Naval single planet gameplay very well because it's mostly similar to prior games, but things like Orbitals and multiple planetoids are new and unknown, so they are focusing on getting the 'known' stuff working and making sure the rest works with it. We've had a few topics pop up about it before, you can check the Topic Index for those and more.
I didnt think anyone would bring that up . I know its a mode of transport but its not the type i was thinking off. That just flings bots at a planet but i was thinking more of rockets, ships, ect.
Isn't the canon designed to shoot units from an asteroid onto a planet, planet to planet won't work caused by high gravity? Or you can also shoot units within the planets atmosphere to a different location on the same planet... but I guess this is all WIP.
There won't be any spaceships... there will be rockets... so called eggs to start an expansion somewhere else... later you might be able to get a teleporter... they talked a bit about those... but we will have to wait and see...
That was what I figured as well, basically it comes down to Unit Cannons being cool and all, but using them exclusively in place of other transport options is kinda boring. Mike
It could go either way. It's perfectly reasonable to claim that a Unit Cannon won't work on a planet. And at the same time, it's perfectly reasonable to claim that one would work. I'm curious to see how it pans-out. Just going to have to wait a week or so.
If that same unit cannon is built on an astroid or any low gravity will the unit cannon become an interspace unit cannon or be locked in to only able to land back on the same rock it came from?
As nanolathe mentioned, pretty much every unit's capabilities are still TBD, even down to movement speed and damage output of the units we've already seen shooting stuff in the livestreams. Alpha is usually for getting things working. Beta is where you do the fine tuning like deciding exact ranges, damage, HP etc. Beta is where we'll find out just how versatile (or not) the unit cannon is going to be, and whether any other intra-planetary transport methods surface. Until then, discussion topics in General should do their part to implant suggestions in the dev's subconscious, should you be so inclined :mrgreen:
