Sorry if I've missed this, but don't see it obviously posted elsewhere. Just stumbled on to this game, really disappointed that I missed it on Kickstarter... In any case threw my $100 in and happy to support UBER. I've been a long time fan of the TA series - I remember being a super young lad playing countless hours of TA in my earlier years, really looking forward to seeing its true spiritual successor! That being said - I don't want to be naive and assume that there will be a REALLY large player-base for the game, hopefully that comes to fruition but this series has always seemed to have a smaller cult following. That being said - are there any plans for additional purchasable content in the future? Hopefully not needing to resort to selling power, but the money needs to flow from somewhere! Really looking forward to playing, the game looks amazing!
-1 to pay for DLC you can successfully maintain games through cosmetic microtransactions. i understand they plan to sell different commanders, as long as they don't provide a conceivable advantage that seems okay. but if you have to buy a commander to be at the top of the ladder it'll be pretty disappointing. standalone expansions like FA as long as they don't divide the community seem ok.
I'm okay with additional DLC if it's well balanced - its a fine line to cross - but perhaps offering slightly different flavors of commanders that offer different attributes that just allow for different styles of play I'd be fine with. In either case - I'd rather the game be well funded and added to for the long foreseeable future! Video game development isn't cheap.
Kinda concerned about this myself. Ideally, I'd like any more paid content for this game to come in the form of expansions or mini-expacs, stuff that feels substantial. Adding something like the ability to sculpt and terraform land in-game would be a cool addition for example(carving out canyons for example). Adding a space element(interplanetary transports and fighters) to the game would also be a worthy expansion It appears Uber are going to try to crowd-source dlc and there will be a marketplace for user-generated content that they will be taking a cut from... Not entirely at ease with this, as there are a ton of potential problems with monetizing mods. It doesn't exactly ring true to their statement about modding being fundamental to the spirit of TA either, since that had a wonderful & varied *free* modding scene. I do hope that modders are given complete control of their work and the decision to make it free or paid regardless of what it is, for example, someone creates the most popular total-conversion ever and they want it to be free. How paid total conversions will evolve into something pay-worthy without lots of free testers is another question mark. I'll anxiously await the details of this new marketplace, but as of now, I'm pretty leery of it. I imagine mods that add units and in-game content that affects balance would be played separate of the vanilla version of the game, which lead to questions of compatibility with other paid/unpaid mods (playing other people with more than one mod on?) and questions of monetary value if not enough people have the same mod(s), or perhaps the mod has an extremely short life-span for whatever reason.
