Stealth, radar jamming, and amphibious units were all pretty unique features when Total Annihilation was released. I remember fondly building secret fire-bases under advanced radar-jamming installations, and launching surprise attacks with scores of formidably powerful Triton amphibious tanks. Stealth by the way can refer to units that simply don't show up on the radar, or units that cloak, such as the T2 spy bots, or the commanders in TA. So, are these unit types and features likely to reappear in Planetary Annihilation?
If they can be balanced properly, I'd love to see them come back. I do worry that stealth and radar jammers might be too good in a game where you are forced to divide your attention between multiple planets and battlefronts though. I don't see any problem with amphibious units, hovercraft would probably be the most efficient and desirable type IMO(in TA just compare a hover tank's vs an amphibious tank's travel time to cross a body of water, not to mention the extra vulnerability to subs and torpedos).
I just wish stealth (and cloaking) is less useless than it was in Supreme Commander. It would have been fine if Omni didn't have such a ridiculous range
I don't know, I found the icons in the stream to be quite offputting. If I remember correctly, they are working on them though. I would have thought, having a group selection list would be better than individual icons. So tank icon x20 walker icon x25, rather than massive sprawl of icons. More so I would have liked them transparent. It is in this sort of scenario though, where you can take advantage of radar jamming and stealth. For one under radar jam you can make enemy icons much more transparent and bound to line of sight and could do the same permanently for stealth units.
Amphibious units are absolutely essential to handle maps with an arbitrary mix of land and water. Don't be surprised to see it at T1. Stealth and cloak are likely to make a return, and will make base patrols/surprise attacks more important than ever. I don't think omni will make a return, and good riddance. It ruined a lot of the fun of intel warfare.
I really liked seeing a swarm of icons. I do think that they were ludicrously huge, but they'll make it a better size soon, I hope. Seeing a swarm is also always more frightening to the enemy.
