As far as I understand, Metal Planets are basically abandoned space stations. I thought it would be cool for some sort of train station to be added in with the metal planet generation so that your land units could quickly get to another station on the planet. I apologize if this was already asked on here.
That sounds like a pretty cool idea actually. A big part of TA was "armies are slow". Playing with that ("armies are slow EXCEPT when going between these spots") might be interesting. For moving things. lol fluff arguments.
Ahh, I must have mistaken their "things" being able to be built on practically any terrain in just a few seconds. False alarm. Robots still need trains guys... to move "things".
Transit structures make for very intriguing capture points. Although I don't think CP is going to be a major part of the game.
It doesn't even have to be restricted to metal worlds. Unit movement is a huge challenge that matters for everything but the smallest of worlds. Finding something like a jump pad or fun slide will bring a nice advantage to whoever holds it.
I don't know about trains, but light flitting about an active metal planet like tron would look great.
To be honest I'm not very fond of this train idea. And my reason is only becasue it sounds "silly". It might add a good game mechanic but giant robots whose pure purpose of creation is to annihilate everything in their paths using trains? That doesn't go in my book. Especially when there's transports and teleporters. I would rather have trains that can be salvaged, giving metal, energy or having units stored within them that can be re-activated and added to your army. If train as a transport system is added as a mod I would gladly try it out but I wouldn't like to see it in the vanilla game
