Well, I've been following this since my friend first threw the link at me and went, "JAKE! SOME ONE IS DOING IT AGAIN! AND RIGHT THIS TIME!" And I was all, "Holy crap! I must follow and bookmark!" I couldn't assist because I was badly broke, but my friends donated a little! ANYWAYS! I looked into the preordering and the features of different commanders right? And then it hit me...What if we could make our own commanders? Sort of an Armored Core style creator where you can fit parts with different stats and buffs together to tailor-make your commander. When I played Total Annihilation and the SupComs, it had always been described that that was YOU. It was your machine and through it you controlled your armies. You were the champion of your army! And the way you upgraded your unit was through the modules on the commander. Now let's increase that. Anyone remember the War of the Ring RTS of Lord of the Rings? Making your own hero unit? You gained new armor and looks through your glorious conquests! If we could fit legs, arms, torsos, heads, random bits and bobs, then special kits that tweak their performance we could get a personal attachment to our unit and our army. Then we get more parts through exploration of systems, heroic conquests, and other things that would be worthy of gaining loot. But it's not stat based. They're tweaks that differentiate the performance. Weapons, jet packs, accelerators, perhaps special abilities, and maybe animations. It's just an idea and my two cents.
Only $1,000 backers are allowed to "design" their own unique Commander. However the abilities those Commanders possess are not unique only to them... only the specific combination. There will be a "pool" of commanders to choose from for everyone else and that "pool" will include every single ability that Commanders can possess. Though each is locked into its own specific combination of abilities, you're more than likely to find a Commander that will suit your play style.
