Why would you charge for mods?

I have seen amazing quality mods dozens and dozens of times without charging for them.
It seems incredibly stupid and against the point of modding to charge for them.

I love the idea of being able to produce an "animation pack" and sell it on an uber network!

Anyone want some dancing robots?

I am amused that in the context of creating things and with a scale the size of PA (and with the assumption that the list in the second post is complete), that no one has suggested Genesis.

And that correlation proves what exactly?

Being able to monetise your effort provides a powerful incentive to produce, and continue to support, your mod(s).
How many promising mods have fallen by the wayside, fallen short, or taken forever to release because people have other commitments that a project done for no gain other than kudos simply cannot compete with?

Nobody will force modders to charge, so there will continue to be great free mods available, and plenty of ordinary ones.
But there will also be paid ones, that will live/die so much more critically on how good they are.
    Average quality WILL increase.

Not to mention to %fee the house (i.e. Uber) will rake in helps fund their continuing efforts.

    I like this one.

The problem I have with names that involve lab; to the community, this isn't a laboratory. It's a shop, store, or some sort of repository.

There's only going to be a small subset of the community that will actually tinker, develop, or design content. It's a lab for them, but not for others.

I think the name, whatever is chosen, should reflect what it's there for.

Since PA is a game of cosmic scale only one suitable name for the place where new "content emerges" comes to my mind... It should bear the name Accretion Disc, birthplace of planetary systems and entire galaxies.

    ;)

    The Manufactorum of Annihilation
    or simply The Manufactorum

Manufactorum : Latin: plural of manufactus

    Manufactus : Hand Made

or a place were things are made
Warhammer 40k likes to use it alot

It's probably best to avoid pulling direct names that are so strongly associated with an established Intellectual Property.

Games-Workshop obviously doesn't own the rights to the latin Manufactorum, but why tread on another IPs toes when we have so many other ideas available, hmm?

Same goes for "The Foundry". It may not be copyright, but it's already got an association with a specific company. Leave it there, we don't need it.

Love 40k by the way, so I know why you suggested it. :geek:
