Suitable Hosts

From work so I'll try and keep it brief.

Re-watching some of Chron and Toon's recent PM videos I hear a lot of complaints of lag, connection and hit registration issues. Are there any other people who play a regular amount who wouldn't mind hosting? I don't usually opt for the position, I often times get stuck with it. I don't mind getting the lobbies started and going (seeing as most people come to me for it anyways), I'd just rather everyone have a fair and level playing field without lag being a constant issue.

I host not because my host is awesome, but because it is a lesser abuse of host.

i would host but everyone that plays this game is on the east coast. I would rather have lag than 10-11 other people having lag.

I think my connection in just awful and I lag no matter what. I've noticed that every gunner and assault can kill me through walls, which is lovely.

I can host, but someone has to teach me what to do

Also I'm normally not on. Even though I was on Saturday but nothing started by 8 so I watched NCR instead

So, I was flashing my router and it was all like "you ain't got enough ram to run this, son" and I was all like "da **** you say?" and it was all like "nah man, that memory you stuck in me has gone bad. you need to fix that **** like now" so I was all like "ok, here be some new memory you greedy piece" and it was all like "lawl, did I say bad ram? I meant bad memory interface. buy a new router" and I was all like "okies, I go to Fry's and buy a new one but this time I am seeing what likes dd-wrt the most because I'll be damned if I am going to deal with Cisco licensing again".

TLR - sorry for the lag lately, buying a new router to fix it. It won't be like the nifty one that I have right now, but it will be functional.

I'm not sure if any of you guys tried to connect to my host yet. I moved to Texas months ago and my connection has changed considerably. Next PMs we should try my host out.

Sounds good to me. The only really "good" host now is Buffacumber's, for everyone but LeadLP that is.

Pretty sure Chron's is the best.

Chron hosted on his new Fios connection. It was bad enough we changed. It is weird because Fios is usually really good, MNC must have something wrong with it. That or his Xbox was just running slow at the time.

sometimes if your xbox hard drive is full or has alot of things on it which slow down loading
Themes, demos, trials, videos. try deleting a few and clearing cache in memory once in a while. Makes your system a little more faster just like a pc.

Also get a good air dust can and spray the hell out of the insides once a month just so the thing doesnt overheat much.

Other then that toons, lp, smaugs, chrons, buffs host have been fine for me except the odd times theres been lag spikes.

I suggest ground controls host give it a shot if we can all connect to it since hes got a high upload ratio.

im east coast near new york some are west coast

anyhow id like to try other hosts just for the hell of it and see how things work
I wish i had a good upload ratio cause for some reason im the only one everyone can connect to without issues but its slow and blurry.

Of all the hosts we've ever used I believe Goldilock's was actually the best for everyone, which is surprising because her speed test was nothing impressive.

I'll be moving to a new place soon, will give hosting a shot with the much better connection there.

I only get skills half the time on GC's host - some connections just don't like one another. For example you can see Scratchyy on my host do short little teleports instead of walking sometimes. I can link to a couple of videos where that happens with him but everyone else is fine.

I did clean my Xbox when things were running laggy and it did help quite a bit, but then I found out my router was bad so I am resolving that. Has anyone tried using one of those add on fans that are supposed to help vent heat better? I am iffy about them, but there might be something to it.

This isn't true at all. My host was fine for everyone except lead who says he lags on everyone's. even wildman had better hit detection. We didn't change, I left after a few gamed because those PMs... Jesus lol

Do you remember what day that was? And yeah, Lead lags on every host (even mine) but I don't seem to have a problem connecting to his. Weird.

Everyone has shitty host. I recently played on FightingMongoose host and it was good. Also Leads' host was sucking huge d!ck when me and woyldman were playing on it.

Pretty much this. For example, I know I can't host on weekends and usually try not to - EVERYONE has the same ISP in my building and it is slammed on weekends. I have like 100Mbps down 15Mbps up through the week, but it is only like 10d\1u starting Friday night until mid Sunday.

Host has less to do with Internet power as it does ping. Anyone along the east coast will love my host. Wildmans best bet is east coast (mine) and with more powerful Internet it improved him a bit. Gunked hates everyone's host because most are 2000miles away from him, and he chooses to play on his awful wireless Internet more times than not.

Yeah, for me it is jitter. It is usually OK but sometimes I bounce from 6ms to 150ms, although I am going to see if the new router helps that (if the bad memory was causing retransmits due to malformed\broken packets then it would certainly be the case)

do not buy one of those fans for the back of your system as it will smother it and cause it to overheat quicker. There a fan mods you can get on your xbox which increase the voltage power and fan speed. Not sure how to do it but those will work and cool your system down. I had one done to my sons system and it works perfect
