    I will repeat what I said in the two (three?) previous threads:

    Two colors per player is too messy. Go with 20 colors and stripes/no stripes.

    Stripes / no stripes works well for sports games or similar where all "units" have the same general shape. But even then they usually have two or more major colors. It also begs the question of what color is the stripe, because that basically means you have two colors there too.

    We'll have to put more time in to unit colorization as we go forward for readability and see how it translates in to strategic icons (which is another place where straight stripes mess up readability).

    Don't worry though, if the two color method ends up being too difficult to deal with we'll find other solutions.

    I say simply restrict colour combos to ones that are readable on the strat icons.

    A fixed set of visibly distinct colors to choose from, and having the possibility of stripes of two team colors (primary and secondary) is the best solution to having 40 visibly distinct teams.

    To accomplish this you only need 7 colors, but I think a few more is sensible to include for games with fewer players that want a single solid teamcolor.

    There should be enough colours to choose from that anyone can get their favorite.

    I'm sure I discussed this before, in a previous topic. There should be a sticky on this.

    40 players doesn't imply 40 armies. For drop in/out I would expect team play to be important.

    If it is in fact a FFA there are various ways of handling this as has been pointed out.

    This!

    Team games is the way to go. Its the most played in FPS.
    Because:
    You can hide behind the team.
    Even little skill adds up.
    When you lose, you can blame the team.

    The thing that made me pledge $90 is the 40 man games, especially if it is FFA.

    I plan on running a 24 hour server that supports 40 player FFA matches. ;)

    Of course I will be in team vs team matches, but only 2v2 or 4v4. Any bigger than that would be too unruly. :mrgreen:

    How about 4v4v4v4v4v4v4v4v4v4 or 2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2? :D

    I think you missed the point of your own post. "FFA"
    How to tell your army from enemy army?
    you = green
    enemy = red
    You don't need to know which enemy you are killing, just that you are killing an enemy.

    I feel Orange and blue might suit the theme of this game better. But without knowing who you are attacking, then you can't cripple specific threats. You expand out in a circle, you get attacked by someone sooner than you'd expect, so you want to go stomp on them to eliminate the threat or push them back so you can get some breathing room. Everything is red, and it turns out, you're just attacking a nearby Turtle player's Mex, and meanwhile that guy who attacked you first is... Wait. He wouldn't know who you are either... Son of a... Carnage shall ensue.
