Of course, no protection is unbreakable ;-)

And a malicious personn with enough knowledge is hard to stop, regardless of the way you try...

Beside, what said neutrino in his post should be enought to take care of a good chunk of the undelicate players who could be tempted to break the rules !

From what he told me, it worked even in lower resolution and very-very agressive signal deterioration...

Who said anything about an ID number. Watermarks can take various forms that aren't as easy to detect.

So wait, will we not be allowed to make videos of the game in alpha state?
And if so what are the 'rules', or have they not been decided yet? =P

No rules have been decided yet. If/when rules are made I'm sure we'll make it obvious somewhere in the client.

Just so everyone knows we haven't necessarily decided to stop people from posting videos from the alpha.

It is a weird balance of hype generation versus early shoddy footage.

Yeah, although I'm starting to think that isn't as big a deal as it used to be. I think gamers are getting used to the idea that games are going to get made more live.

Yeah, but that's still way more hope for people than I have! xD

If it were my Call, I'd lock down on Early Alpha stuff, let things kinda even out a bit, add in a few more features and such, then let people loose on Youtube.

Alternatively I'd just straight up hold out for Beta, I just don't think the masses are ready for an Alphas to be thier first major point of interaction with a game.

I'd be wary of giving the average gamer too much credit there Neutrino. Some gamers are enlightened to how games are made, but I'd place a healthy wager on most of them not knowing their arse from their elbow. (figuratively speaking)

    Edit: Ninja Mike!

    ---

Besides, since you're locking down on additional people buying into the Alpha in a few days, there's no real need to Hype up the game that early on.

Ha, since you're currently showing off PRE-alpha on the stream, I can't see what harm it could do =P
    Looking good!

It's a bit different showing something in a stream, they have full control over what is shown, and can make statements like "This is Pre-Alpha" or "Yes we know ______ doesn't work yet, we're working on it" where as someone viewing a Youtube Video titled "LOL PLANETARY ANNIHILATION BUGS" but not figure it all out.

Its the internet. We can always go to such poster's and flame: its alpha moron, they fixed it already.

but what does that solve? Are you saying all the people that watch that video read all the comments? The issue isn't that people can post the videos, its that people can VIEW the videos and have the potential to judge the product based on something that shouldn't be judged like that, going in after the fact doesn't really help.

I dunno, it sounds like you guys are arguing that limitations should be introduced just to cater for the 'gamer' who watches 10 seconds of poor quality youtube video and decides not to get into PA.

Frankly, I doubt that kind of person would even be interested in the game.

Well, even then, it looked like they limited what they were showing. They didn't build naval or space units, they didn't build a lot of air units, and when they were zooming in on tanks you could see one of them drive into the water, so I guess land pathfinding might not be avoiding water yet.

I think they're doing amazing though, this looks like very good stuff. I'm excited for alpha, and having them roll out major features as they iterate the alpha.

The warning at the start about all of this being early wasn't just talk.

I honestly just dont see how an NDA would work, perhaps adding a small cation in the bottom right saying ALPHA and another in the bottom left saying ALPHA Game play is Not Representative of Final Product.

I dislike NDAs. What's the harm in showing something that isn't finished, if it's made clear that it isn't finished?

Because not everyone on the internet is good at either,
    1. relating information like "Not finished",
    and
    2. Reading and understanding information like "Not Finished".

See the Q&A session of last weeks Livestream for proof that most people just don't listen to what they're being told... In fact I'd go so far as to say almost the entire 2nd half of the Stream starting from minute 30 is a wash with examples of the ignorance of mankind.

    ---

People on the Internet, despite its near infinite capacity for allowing anyone to view nearly any piece of information almost instantly, are astoundingly stupid, short-sighted to near blindness, single-minded to the point of myopia and horrendously quick to jump to conclusions.

Last week's? I'm assuming you mean the March 22nd Livestream? ;p

But otherwise spot on, that was even with Neutrino and the other guys constantly saying that it wasn't finished and that they were still working on things that weren't currently present and what not, if people were to just stumble across Youtube vids uploaded by players they wouldn't have that context to ignore, and just putting "Alpha" in a corner won't cut it if the Game Designer himself saying it's not done and being worked on doesnt' cut it either.
