i really like the art style in the 3-D -ish picture  . also the lighting on the lava planet seems just right.

These images are all mockups or "concepts", not in engine.

    That's all Steve (and Dox).

I don't believe we have explicit plans for terrain that moves, apart from destruction. Liquids and atmospherics are a different issue, and something like a gas giant is all atmosphere. However I can't speak to how that might affect unit movement.

Ok, I sure would like the game to look like that, especially the lava biome looks amazing!

I'm kinda really miss a proper plains/flatland/steppe/prairie/savannah biome. Sure, I can partially fix that myself by just chopping down all those forest trees for mass.

But I really like it so far, especially the trees in the forest. Sharp edges look so good!

Keep in mind people, these are concepts. So far only the desert and the forest biome seems to be actual kinda-in-game-graphics.

Is there a way you could add a desolate type biome? A biome that has been ravaged by war from a battle long before or something, and it is filled with lots of destroyed buildings and units for reclamation. It could be incorporated within the other biomes, but could have a rare chance to make that biome a destroyed version of an untouched biome.

    very cool!

Will there be swamp a swamp/marsh biome?

The gas giant concept is pretty non-descript compared to the others. That will probably be the toughest to work out, as true gas giants have so much swirly cloud detail and volumetric lighting effects to them.

Looks really good so far, oh gawd the forest one looks cute and awesome.

Very easy to differentiate between them and very easy to read. Good ones Uber!

As a gas giant, seems likely that the action will all be in the orbital layer. Too early to say for sure what other game play may exist on gas giants, but mostly they seem like strategic locations, to me.

    Missing:

    - Caustic
    - Crystalline
    - Urbanized
    - Destroyed
    - Bacon

Don't get me wrong, I know that environments are a lot of work. So my question is:

Will biomes be moddable? More biomes/enhancing existing biomes/etc.?

Great concepts! I do like the vibrant color palettes and hope that you retain those to the final game. Way too many games have a bland/grey graphical style these days.

I think Gas Giants could provide immense amounts of energy if giant wind turbines were deployed or gasses were skimmed off the planet and used for energy, gasses like helium 3 could help fusion reactors, methane can be burned and gas knows what else depending on the make up of the giant.

Also you could have floating power facilities below orbital directly in the atmosphere, these however would be extremely vulnerable too attack making Gas Giants powerful assets that must be protected.

Is the Crystalline biome a reference to FTL?

Wouldn't crystaline be an all consuming super unit? Or, shall we say, entity?

    Ahhhhhh nice.

Honestly it would be cool to have Methane Planets, like sandy barren moons with vast lakes of liquid methane and a thick yellow sulfur atmosphere.

Planets like these would add a coll variety to planetary systems.

Buttttt as long as Gas Giants and their moons get a copious amount of love i am happy.
